I've yet to read the sequel, don't think anything could live up to the first series. Had alot of fun covering these lesser-known Contest of Champions characters!

It's really poorly done. They basically turned it into Thunderdome where two heroes had to fight one another in an arena and only one could survive. Some of the match ups were ridiculous.

In one panel they show Black Widow defeating Wonder Man with no real explanation as to how she did it.Really? I'm supposed to believe her little widow's sting is going to take down a guy that's survived ground zero of the Nega Bomb? It destroyed a solar system and he survived it but a little wrist zapper is going to knock him out?

That does sound kinda ridiculous! Guess I won't be putting that on my summer reading list.

Yeah, just avoid it Definitely not one of Chris Clairemont's best efforts

Claremont wrote it? Wow, sad to say, but he's seemed to have lost some of his greatness over the years. Haven't really cared much for any of his new stuff.

MJMJR In reply to hclix [2011-06-13 13:45:10 +0000 UTC]

Yeah he did. It was a cool concept but it was just very poorly executed. It was like he didn't understand how half the characters powers worked in some spots and he just threw in these one-panel defeats where you were like "How did this guy beat that one?"

I think if he had a decent co-writer or creator to work with like Byrne he would be awesome again.

Claremont and Byrne's run on Uncanny is one of my top 5 of all time. A lot of the future storylines where developed during this time, Dark Phoenix, Hellfire Club, Wolverine's development (and my fave comic cover of all time Uncanny X-Men #133!),Days of Future Past, Magneto become a more sympathetic character, etc.

Lordwormm In reply to hclix [2010-10-13 00:50:53 +0000 UTC]

Ooh, Diamond Lil? Smart Alec?

I think Alpha Flight had some of the coolest bad guys who didn't get a fair shake.

The Master, MISS MASS & Pink Pearl?!! Two big gals who should be brought in to fight Big Bertha. With the Blob and Kingpin! I don't know why that hasn't been jumped on!

Gilded Lily!! She was hot and shiny!

hclix In reply to Lordwormm [2010-10-13 13:39:38 +0000 UTC]

You are so right! Smart Alec, Flashback and the rest of Omega Flight will be coming soon! The Master and Pink Pearl have been on my list to do. And Gilded Lily would be perfect in my style! Gonna try fitting in the Dreamqueen later this month. Already covered the lovely Diamond Lil!

hclix In reply to Chadfuller [2010-10-05 11:05:29 +0000 UTC]

They are fun-looking characters from a fun period in comic book history, sadly far and seldom in today's scene.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chadfuller In reply to hclix [2010-10-05 16:06:00 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, they just don't get the love anymore? I looked in a recent previews, and I kid you not, there is something like 10 new Batman books? how many do we need,? but none of these characters like Blitzkreig are seen in comic books pages anymore.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hclix In reply to Chadfuller [2010-10-05 20:05:37 +0000 UTC]

We've discussed this subject before, less is more! 2 Spider-Man or Batman series a month is enough, with an occasional limited series here and there! I'd even be happy with the 2 titles and a Marvel/DC Team-Up style title too featuring some of the under-utilized characters teaming up with the more popular Spider-Man or Batman!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chadfuller In reply to hclix [2010-10-06 04:07:02 +0000 UTC]

yeah, sadly both Marvel and DC think flooding the market with books from their most popular characters will translate into more sales, but I think it also hurts fans. Books are expensive enough not to be surrounded by that much stuff. Just keep it simple! if only they would listen to us Jacob!!!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hclix In reply to Chadfuller [2010-10-06 09:45:23 +0000 UTC]

Sometimes it almost seems like Marvel/DC are trying to drown each other and us in the sheer amount of stuff released, regardless if they make money or not, which is crazy! Maybe X-Men would achieve sale numbers like in the 90's if there was only 2 titles a month and Wolverine ONLY appeared in said titles!

Chadfuller In reply to hclix [2010-10-07 18:43:55 +0000 UTC]

thats the whole truth, sadly this whole flooding of the market idea that has swept the big two is destroying the indy publishers instead, which will only hurt us all.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hclix In reply to Chadfuller [2010-10-07 20:18:05 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, I didn't even point out how this effects the indie's!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Chadfuller In reply to hclix [2010-10-07 21:13:38 +0000 UTC]

it's a sad trend that seems not to be ending anytime soon. I only hope that DC and Marvel shorten their output soon just for the sake of our beloved medium!

Appreciate the support bro! Knew I was shooting myself in the foot pageview wise with this theme of basically obscure and forgotten characters! But it's my mission to pique people's interest through my art and show them another side of comics, where everyone wasn't a bloodthirsty vigilante and comics were fun for the sake of being fun!

give me any comics from the 60s thru 80s and i'll give you the 90s til the end of the world ones.

The 80's will probably be my favorite time for pure fun and adventure, being able to escape into this make-believe world still brings back fond memories! I really don't get that feeling nowadays reading today's comics.... maybe I'm just getting old!

DiMaio In reply to hclix [2010-10-04 17:59:13 +0000 UTC]

whenever i love a character the writers abuse him. LOL. when the original alpha flight came out i was all about puck so of course the disembowel him and he's out for like 10 issues. and look what they did to yellowjacket, jack of hearts, hawkman ... i could go on. it's like there's a chip in my head and they know, "larry digs this guy, ruin him." LOL

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

hclix In reply to DiMaio [2010-10-04 18:04:07 +0000 UTC]

Man, I felt the same way about Puck! He was so cool and fresh and by issue 5 he's maimed! Love the banter/fights he had with Sasquatch who could like crush him so easily! Another point, Yellowjacket has one of the coolest designed costumes around! To not utilize this character is so wrong! Hank as the new Wasp sucks! Just my opinion.

DiMaio In reply to hclix [2010-10-04 19:22:40 +0000 UTC]

i completely agree. that's why i just re-read "avengers forever" to get my yellowjacket fix. pacheco drew yj perfectly and they had his cocky attitude down pat in that series. love that he was always chewing bubblegum. done right he's like "ash" from the "evil dead" movies.

pacheco is on my list of all time faves. the story is really good in af but his art is mind-blowing. AND the reason i first read it, great job with yj
