more stuff, another from around this time last year I think~_________________________
this was mainly a remake of this image here , both of their anatomy looked goofy and I can never quite manage to get Ajala to look like how I first imagined her, even now it’s still difficult to get her droopy/squinty motherly eyes right since they’re supposed to kinda turn downwards at an angle. I love her old name "Anafahamu" but it was just a mash up of a Swahili phrase and a word so it didn't make much sense, not to my knowledge anyway. so she has a new one now~
but yeah these guys needed a more recent update since they're part of the story and tie into the royal family, I gotta get down official designs on a lot of characters before I start anything proper. a mini 2-3 comic involving these two toxic lovebirds and Uru has been in the making for a long time, it just hasn’t gotten past the sketch stage because procrastination is a bitch and trying to get a character to look the same at different angles/with different expressions is a challenge. so hopefully that's going to be finished at some point
Ubora: Ubora is chief of overseeing the training of soldiers/warriors/guards and holds sparing classes where he can be more personal with young teens/adults to give basic lessons of survival and how to use their talents to the best of their ability. even though these lessons are optional unless informed otherwise, most go anyway for the credit (similar to doing certain tests/work in school for benefical reasons) even though they don't like the way he teaches. he's one very strict and stern man when it comes to strength and being the best, and is also a lowkey perfectionist. so it can be a little intimidating and overbearing for the faint of heart, a challenge to say the least. his wife won't put up with this side of him though, and downright refuses to let him have his way in arguments or when he's being egotistical. she strongly feels like he patronises and underestimates her too often, which is true, and the day he shows proper respect or signs that he actually cares is the day she'll stop being "unbearable" as he likes to put it. he's war torn and wise beyond his years, so he isn't one to be phased by anything at all. if a young male thinks he can be a smartass during his lessons and not take it seriously, he's got another thing coming. Ubora, Kondo and Ahadi are close friends, all growing up in the same circumstances and they're the only two souls he'd ever consider going too with problems. though he usually doesn't need too because they can read him like an open book, and when they get the time for a break from their busy routines of running a Kingdom, the three will sit quietly somewhere and ramble and joke like three old men. Kondo will note that Ubora should be happy to even have a wife since he doesn't have one anymore, and that's usually when Ubora will realize he's being a dick (he won't admit it) and try to make ammends with Ajala because he does actually love her even if it's buried under a big pile of "I don't like feelingssss" attitude
Ajala: Ajala is one of Uru's closest friends and has quite a few different roles, making her schedule a very busy one. she's essentially a task manager of sorts and oversees most of the major jobs that go on in the Kingdom, working with others to keep records of stocks, trades and the specific resources needed. and she's one finely tuned huntress alongside her intelligence, something she honed perfectly in her younger years. she usually goes out with the other hunters as the mother of the group along with supervisors to make sure things are balanced and fair. i've mentioned before that she usually stays quite calm and quiet to avoid conflicts of interest, but she's known not to be messed with or screwed over since she does not take it lightly and doesn't tolerate disrespect towards herself or anyone she holds dear. she's made people lose their jobs, be demoted, or put on some sort of "time out" punishment when they've tried to take advantage of Ajala's trust and kindness. she's strict for the right reasons and has earned her respect through purely giving back as much as she gets, "Lady Ajala" is what most refer to her as. she prefers to stay out of most meetings involving royal affairs, but her opinion and insight is still saught after due to the fact that she has strong relations with others and her opinion is valued. especially by Uru who is usually stressing over the slightest issues and needs a smart insight by a smart woman. Ajala usually has a half stressed/half solemn expression all the time like she needs a good nights rest, and her signature eyebrow lift in an unamused fashion is something seen often too. it's something Ubora usually rolls his eyes at when he sees it because he knows it means trouble. stargazing is a small hobby her and Embamba have liked to do since he was a small child and they still like to have late night talks and watch the sky, marvelling at it's beauty and the wonders of the world
Embamba : Embamba is Ubora and Ajala's firstborn son and a lot is expected of him by his father. Ubora has that typical proud father mentality that goes overboard when the line between loving relationship and teacher student relationship bleeds into the other. Embamba is basically stuck with two parents who never seem to get along and when they do it's very few and far between. he's had to grow up witnessing and experiencing multiple fights and arguments, unable to do aything other than be sad when he sees his mother sad and his father throw himself into his work, becoming even more withdrawn. though he loves them both dearly and as problematic as the family is, his relationship with his parents is quite strong despite the conflicts and frequent head butting. throughout his younger years he wishes he has more of a valid say on his life choices and goals for the future, because it feels like he's being led down a path with things handed to him on a silver plater and everything laid out in steps for him to take with no way around them. it's as if his father has a life already planned and Embamba is always weary that he'll be shipped off to be an official soldier before he's ready and willing. these anxious feelings only amplify when the talk of Embamba needing to leave his home to be betrothed to another leader's daughter is brought up, to pass on his family name and become allies with others to uphold peace. he absolutely dreads it due to the fact that it's exactly what happened to his parents, and the idea of it makes him deeply unsettled because he doesn't actually know if either of them are happy because of the choices made for them. though luckily, it's not a confirmed proposition and he has a lot of hope he will one day be able to take control of his life and not have to live up to expectations, to constantly impress those around him like he's been obligated to do since he was a child
_____________________________________________
Embamba in the timeline of Mufasa’s youth will eventually go on to be "The Fastest" out of the four different sub roles within the elite guard, my own personal take on the "The Lion Guard". his speed/precision is actually pretty fascinating and it's one of the reasons Ubora takes so much pride in him (well, himself for producing such an impressive son) because his talents at running and being swift in fights are well known within the Kingdom. Ubora will take it upon himself to inform Embamba that he needs to be an example when teaching the youngsters, and he learned quickly that he doesn't have much of a choice to get out of it. he hates it because he doesn't want to be the centre of attention or be a forced role model to the impressionable youngsters, but he puts up with it because he has too. Tajari (AKA Scar), is good friends with Embamba whilst growing up and they go through a lot of ups and downs together regarding feelings and all that jazz
hope you like~
(i'm pretty sure I streamed this at one point so thank you to those who watched!!
as a sidenote, Ubora probably sounds like a huskier/grumpier/louder version of Tywin Lannister from Game of Thrones. warning for spoilers if you click the link and you have't seen the show beforehand!! ---> www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVfCly…
