His powers are dangerous to himself and the world, he got killed 2 times I believe. On of them on Kingdom Come, resulting on a nuclear explosion, right?

The Kingdom Come Captain Atom is a different version from the original. That's the Earth-22 version. He was killed after Parasite (who took powers from both Magog and Captain Atom) blasted his suit open, causing a nuclear explosion.
The original Captain Atom was killed once, to my knowledge. When he traveled the Astral Plane to visit his dead wife, he got trapped there somehow and had to work his way through Purgatory (plus defeat Nekron) before going back to the living world.
