Yeah Ghosts of Onyx actually goes to great lengths explaining to you just what all the problems with SPARTAN IIIs are. How they're unstable, and usually go insane if they don't die on their missions first. They were "throw-away soldiers" bro.

haha they're not that unstable. idk what part you were reading but they weren't like horribly psychotic soldiers. they were badasses entirely. i feel you need to do a little more reading. try reading headhunters for example.

I've read all the Halo books, and no, they're not that unstable in their early years, but they burn out, and fast - and they were made to be expendable.
They're pale shadows of SPARTAN-II's, Ackerson's heavy-handed mimic of a far superior program.

well...ackerson was a jealous prick. and he wanted a faster overwhelming force. expendable..unfortunately by finances. but remember kurt had personal involvement with bettering the spartans and improving them. i'd say he def. helped increase some efficiency.
