It was two months into the new year and the weather had been bad for weeks. The cold temperatures around Christmas hadn't last long and were replaced by rainy weather. The relief the Christmas break brought to Amelia didn't last long; and for Martha and Babette, Christmastime was always one the most busy times at the hotel. This evening, Babette had invited Martha to have dinner with her and Amelia in their new flat. After a delicious meal, Amelia excused herself and went to her room. When she returned, she was wearing a new black and white bikini.

"Looks good on you, Amelia!" Martha congratulated her friend. "It's a pity that you have to wait until summer until you can go to the beach."

"Actually, I hoped you could help me... us with this. We thought about a short holiday to the beach." Amelia explained.

"I'm sorry, but Babette and I have to go to work tomorrow. And don't you have nightschool again?" Martha replied.

"We've covered that already." Babette replied. "How about a place where time runs a bit different? A nice beach with warm weather? You can come along if you want, Martha."

"Exactly, but a place where we are not constantly harassed by horny guys." Amelia added.

Babette raised her eyebrow. "Are you sure about that?"

"Actually, that sounds like a good idea." Martha said. "If you wish so, I'll teleport us to such a place at once."

"Teleport?" Amelia asked. "Haven't you forgotten somthing?"

"Right... That wish you made, Amelia. No problem, I'll open a portal, then." Martha answered.

"Good. I'll change into my bathing suit and you make the wish, Amelia." Babette said and left for her room.

Amelia took Martha's lamp. "Martha, I wish that you open a portal to a wonderful beach, where we can spend the next three days without being missed at school or our jobs and where no horny guys will constantly chase us."

"You wish is granted!" Martha said and blinked. A portal formed. A few minutes later, Babette returned wearing a bikini, too. The three friends were off on their holiday.

When the three girls stepped through the portal, they found themselves on a beautiful beach with crystal clear water, white sand and a palm grove behind them. Further inland, there were some mountains. They also saw the domes of some kind of arabian palace in the distance. The beach was crowded by several women. Many of them wore bikinis and other bathing suits. But strangely, there were several kinds of mermaids lying on the beach, too: Normal mermaids with fish tails, but also dolphin mermaids and even octopus mermaids with many tentacles instead of legs and feet. To Martha's surprise, there were genies too. Many women had jewels in their navels from which the smoke tails of genies came, with the genies floating above the women. The most astonishing fact was that all women, mermaids, and genies were deep asleep.

"Where did you take us, Martha?" Amelia asked.

"I'm not sure. You wished for a beach where you can spend three days without being missed and where no horny guys would chase after you. I assume that this is some kind of parallel world. Most likely, time will go faster here; so for three days HERE, I guess only one day will pass in our world. And we have a beach and I see no men at all. I'd say your wish has been granted!" Martha explained.

Babette placed her towel on the sand and opened her bag. "Who cares? Let's settle down, relax and get a nice tan! Amelia, will you rub me with sunblock?"

"Sure!" said Amelia, and started to rub the sunblock onto Babette's back.

Meanwhile, Martha had awakened a sleeping octopus-mermaid. "Hello! My name is Martha and I and my friends just arrived here. We are wondering what is going on?"

"Yawn!" The mermaid stretched her arms. "Welcome to the island of dreams. My name is Darleena. Don't worry, here you are safe. You can stay here as long as you want, have a nice nap or relax otherwise. And you won't be harassed by anything, since this place is well guarded."

"Who's protecting this place?"

"The Golems are the guardians. If you break the peace, you'll face them, but no woman that comes here ever does. And on top are the goddesses, who rule this land.

Meanwhile, Amelia had finished rubbing the sunblock into Babette's skin. "Martha, will you rub me too, please?"

"What has happened to Babette?" Martha turned towards Babette and Amelia. Babette was already lying on her towel, deep asleep.

"She decided to take a nap." Amelia put her hand in front of her mouth. "Yawn! Come on, rub me, so I can take one, too." She laid down and turned on her belly. When Amelia rested her head on her hands, she quickly slipped away into sleep.

Martha violently shook Amelia. "Amelia, you have to wake up. Something's wrong here. I feel tired too, though I don't really want to sleep." She pulled Amelia up. Then Martha tried to wake up Babette,also.

"Letmesleepmartha..." Babette mumbled. She barely opened her eyes but quickly slipped into sleep again.

Martha tried again to waken up Babette. But the only reaction she got was a loud snore. Then Martha saw that Amelia was about to collapse and fall asleep again. She quickly supported Amelia. With Amelia's arm over her shoulder, Martha went over to the sleeping Darleena. She tried to wake up the mermaid again.

"whatdoyouwantnow?" Darleena asked, half asleep.

"Please tell me where I can find the goddesses."

Darleena woke from her slumber. "They live in the palace at the center of the island. Just head for the mountains and you will eventually pass by the palace. Now let me sleep again.

Martha felt that Amelia was getting drowsy again. And she herself felt tired, too. Quickly, Martha dragged Amelia from the beach, leaving Babette and Darleena behind.
