Here I had to use a scanner, as I used not only black and white, but also grey, feltpens, pencil and graphite (a real piece of industrial graphite, a present from an artist, some years ago).

If you want your pictures less dark, you must use a lamp. A normal desk-lamp will be good; you have got to handle it, as if it was a gun, and direct the light exactly the way you want. At the same time, and that's the difficulty, you've got to take the picture.
With a mobile it could be a real enterprise, while with a normal camera it's quite tricky but not impossible. Maybe you can do something good with the integrated flash, but that light is a bit too strong, and makes images too flat.

If you use ball-pen ink, the reflection would be a problem; the same with pencil. With china-ink and feltpens, however, light will not give you unecpected shades or mirror-like light reflections.

I also make some tiny corrections, before uploading them: some corners of the page, some pixel-like details, some letters (as I have to be careful whit my own handwriting, or it can turn messy and impossible to read).
It's all hand-made and I also use very poor materials. So, it needs lot of patience, especially the matter of light.
