Description asked me for tips for lineless/more realistic stuff. So Here's a tutorial shamelessly using a copyrighted character to explain what my technique is. (Which I use in pretty much all my digital paintings. )  This is only a brief example how I usually work, and I'm not sure if that Spyro art will actually get finished... (I started it for this)
This is just the mooost basic tutorial, not covering all the details. It's also my first tutorial, so feedback will be appreciated! ^^
But without further ado.

STEPS

1. Make a light sketch on one layer, like most usually do.  Set the sketch from "Normal" to "Multiply"'

2. Add a new layer below the sketch, and block in the colours of the character/whatever you're going to work with. Don't worry about the colour going over the lines, it's no biggie on this state.  After the colour is set, preserve the opacity of the colours.

3. After the opacity is set, start colouring in all the other colours, shades, highlights. This can still be messy-messy at this point but do keep in mind where you want the shadows to be and all that other stuff. Give it depth.  Then transfer the sketch layer below, so it's all in one layer.
If you're working on a highly complex piece, it's good to make and extra layer for the background.

And for the next step, those are the two tools I personally LOVE to overuse and favor

4. Smoothen out and blend the colours as shown, after using the brush and the watercolour tool it will be so much
smoother!

5. But that's not quite enough... for the colour might also smudge and there's no way you'll get them right on one-go. So use the airbrush again, and start adding more detailed colours here and there where you want more shadow, more highlight, a different tone... This time be more careful and considerate on where you add all the colour.

6. Back to the smooth tools! Make the brush size smaller and play with the settings to ensure the best smoothing, and generally pay more attention to detail, the direction of your brush strokes, and so on and so on.
As you can see, sometimes details are lost within this process like his mouth. And that's completely fine! After you got that area covered, go to the next detail.... It's also good to sometimes make the edges a bit cleaner with the eraser.

7. Add those details! Use the airbrush! Take the smoother-brushes again and continue adding the details and so on. Repeat and repeat until you got enough details and contrast to your liking.

Yep, loved the 3 original games. Used to play them both on PS1 and PS2, glad to see you had some good memories with them too.

Thankyou! I'm glad you got something out of it.

And about the Spyro... (I actually never finished it... XD ) but for what I got done in the tutorial it took close to an hour or so...If I ended up finishing it it probably would've taken up to 4 hours, or 6 if I made him proper scales and all that stuff... depends on how much detail you wanna put in.

Nice process! I like how you showed the different steps. You also took time writing steps too. That is a lot of work explaining! Thanks for taking time doing that.
