Description
A quick little tutorial that I thought could be of use to people.I see a lot of this stuff going around and it honestly does bother me.
The pointers I've given are not the law. There are plenty of other opinions out there. But this is the way I feel about it.

So we're allowed to use stock imaged for backgrounds?

I have a question ^^'Β
Does it count if I add a tokota I drew myself to the stock image background, BUT the tokota is a rather cartoonish (or semi-realistic) style? I mean, it would be painted and shaded accordingly, but obviously still not realistic.Β

In my opinion, it would use more shading! Some shadow underneath the subject to show that it's standing where it is.
Adding some of the plants it's standing on over the paws would be a good plan also!
Β It's a good step in the right direction though

Actually, meta-art is accepted if the result is deemed artistic enough, when speaking about law. So as long as the new piece is not the same as the old one, it is not copyright infringement. Basically, if you trace and change the colours you shouldn't be breaking the law, even if it is completely against the wishes of the artist. This is true even if you trace a drawn piece. However it is frowned upon, so people shouldn't do it, just because it's legal. But I don't like it when people say that things are law when they are not.

I see! Thank you for clarifying that.
Is it okay with you if I add your comment to the description? I feel like you give it a pretty good explanation.
I totally agree though. Even if it's not against the law, it doesn't mean it's okay to do it. Law =/= right. Use your good judgment and be respectful of others basically.

If actual effort is placed into them, yes!
But we've been getting quite a few that are just a little lacking lately, so I made this to help clarify for users

Nice tutorial though I can't read the half of the text. :/ It'd be nice if you would make it downloadable

There's some tutorials for that if you search for them. I'd probably need to make another tutorial altogether to explain that one.
And I don't do manipulations enough to be truly good at teaching others about them. xD
