Yesterday at TGS, Capcom released a trailer for the new Devil May Cry (this time as “DmC”) and fans are rioting about Dante’s “new” lookI put “new” in quotations because I think most fans are failing to realize what this could mean. Ok, I am totally gay for usual Dante too! So how could that be that they’re doing a complete remake of the series and change our beloved ass-whooping devil-slasher into a some brit punk kid!?
wait a sec…oh! Has anyone stopped to think that this “new” kid is way younger then the Dante we are used to playing?
And that DMC3 was hardly Dante’s awakening, and more of a “hey Dante’s a bit younger and he’s fighting his brother”?
And how sincerely, if your father is a demon and your mother died, you would be a pretty eff-d up kid in his place?
And how there’s must be a midpoint to the world we know and hell all around?
And how his hair is halfway silver?
Come on!
So, fans are calling Capcom CRAPCOM when they could very well be giving us the most amazing gift for DMC’s 10th anniversary next year:
a well made story driven origin (by the talented Ninja Theory – and if you don’t think their stories are good, you have to at least agree they CARE about their narrative)
Or it could be something completely different…
Maybe Dante and lady hooked up, huh?
Anyway, i have hope. I think this direction is refreshing, new, and really exciting news; and i wish the developers the best of luck!

For the record, I respect Capcom and Ninja Theory. I don't know why or what fans of DMC hate about the "new" Dante. I absolutely love both, classic and reboot. The gaming world these days, hmph.(And cue the replies...) Oh, I can't really tell if your opinion on this is negative or not...

Many people originally bagged DMC 3 for being too hard, and now I hear only good things about it. This game might turn out to be the same, and if it sucks, trade it in I guess. (Gonna buy it regardless)

OWH MAH GAWD, it just struck me in the head,after seeing your artwork,that the new dante isn't dante at all..more like Capcom's own Iori Yagami - angsty, wild and even psychotic a bit...
! thing 4 sure, dante do not have the devil trigger ability until half of the third game..and the new one is supposed to be the prequel to that..now, if there is a consolidation for ya, I think this version of dante should be the new devil trigger form, that he can heighten all of his other abilities (like the traditional devil trigger)..but he can't really control it..(but in reality, we will be the one controlling it, using our controllers of course)

Everything you said could be true. But it doesn't change the fact that he looks like a whiny emo faggot. What's worse, is that they did it to piss everyone off. In one of the interviews they did say that it was an origin story, but also that it was a reboot of the series, and that the new studio's job was to bring something to the publishers that would piss them off.

I can believe he's going to change into something resembling what we know. But did the lead designer really have to self insert himself? Did he think we wouldn't notice?
Second the original series has questions that need answering. Please don't hop on another story when you didn't finish the last one.
Frankly the whole thing looks like its an effort to cash in on the Hot Topic crowd. They could have been a little less blatant about that.
But time will tell, too early to swear it off. But if it's crap I will not pull any punches and keep my wallet shut. Konami can have my money instead.

Eh, I just don't feel it. It's not that the changed Dante, or what they changed about him. It was how much they changed, y'know? If the main character hadn't announced his name was Dante, and there was a nice big "DMC" closing title card, I would have never known it was a Devil May Cry game.
If you want to do a reboot, at least make it something like the original, y'know?
To be honest, I am kinda excited for their reboot plot-wise. Ninja Theory is good for their plot lines (although their game-play can be a bit clunky). I just wish they would do something about the character design. He looks like he's a crack head who woke up and decided to be emo. Nothing about him resembles the original design. I mean, they didn't even bother to give him a red coat, and changed everything down to the color of his eyes.
Ah well. I'll have to wait and see.

i agree with you, when i saw the new trailer my mind began racing with the exact thoughts of: "this could be a true origin to dante" "maybe he's dante's and lady's son" "Oh my sweet lord a sandbox DMC" i don't think capcom would've changed a beloved carachter so drastically without a good reason, so, like you I have hope

I agree with you, many are mad about but it is like a new beginning and looks very interesting. It may take some get used to, but it still looks kick-a**.

Great job on the artwork... although, i still hold some critical thoughts on the source material (the "New Dante").
First, if this one is intended to be an early incarnation of the original dante, then it loses over 9000 points right off the bat, since the anime does establish that dante always looked like a sliver haired boy.
Second... well, i just can't see a "Dante" (a crazy but golden hearted demon slayer) as a brit-punk with a vest that is 2 sizes two big ( I mean, trench-coats are big, but Dante always seems to have them fit him like a glove) and has a rather sick and slightly more edgy disposition (putting out a cigarette in a robot tentical thing's eye just doesn't seem like "Dante).
Third... dispite the "New Dante's" weapon looking cool, it sorta tosses out the idea of Sparda's gift to Dante (Rebellion), and give him this less demonic looking and more of a biomechanical / shapeshifting type halberd or polearm as his primary tool of destruction.
Anyway, if this is a reboot (which alot of people speculate it must be) then, one would think, that they should at least keep a little more resemblance to the original series, just so that it is still the same idea in a different direction rather than a new idea with a series name stamped on it.
I'm not keeping my hopes up too high, but, i am willing to wait for the game's release (or, at least some proper game footage)... I will be getting it, regardless of the end result though, either as a testament that it was able to lay my speculations to rest, or as a reminder of how some of us were right about Ninja Theory being not yet ready to take on something like DMC... Either way, it will be entertaining, and i will win. :3

It's not the original Dante that you should be most worried about. The entire personality and art direction of the game presented in the teaser has taken DmC to a completly different and far off catagory in the style of the game.

I personally thought Dante was born w/ silver hair, y'now? (since some people do have hair so blonde its practically 'white'). I dont hate the change, but I dont like it either. 
A similar thing happened to another amazing game, and a lot of people hated it, I was one of them. Until I picked it up, played it, and found out it wasnt half bad and didnt mind the change. C:

Wait, but the first DMC4 vid was goddamn epic when it was gonna be a PS3 exclusive.
As a matter of fact, I think I would have liked DMC4 more if Dante had had actual missions, not backtracking all you did with Nero to make you feel the game is longer.
