I really like this character. Does he have a name?
I might draw him, if you don't mind.^^
(of course, I'll give you credits if I do it)

I never thought a name for him. Just call him "DJ Rabb".
Feel free to do it if you want to draw him. I love to see my characters drawn by other people.

Wow, your graphic design work is really amazing. I love the richness of the colors, and the background and character are both very elegant. So awesome.

I think it could really be an album cover. Your art has a very professional feel to it!

Oh, and mooncakes are so very delicious.

Thank you! XD Actually this is the first time I spend more than 8 hours on one picture. (I don't have much time and I am impatient... orz) The detailed adjustments are kinda pain but finally, the result is great. More than my expectation. XD

Mooncakes are great but the problem is, there are so many! XD and a little too sweet for me.

Over 8 hours, wow... O_o I agree that it's worth it, though - the end product is fantastic! Your vectoring and background work is truly amazing. Did you use Flash to create this? What tools did you use to create such fine lines and the entrancing circular background pattern?

Also, I wish I could have more mooncakes. There isn't enough Asian culture where I live.

Yes, this is completely created with Flash. I find Flash is a extremely easy tool to create vector artwork, although lack of advanced editing tools.

For the lines. I draw the line's outlines first, adjust and smooth them, then fill it, and delete the outlines, then repeat...

And the circular bg, first I draw a circle, duplicate, resize them to different sizes. Then draw a horizon line, group it, align to center, duplicate and rotate. Then put the circles and lines together, break them all. The result looks like a spider web. Final step, use the bucket tool to click the web randomly... Yeah, done! Seems not easy to create the same thing with other vector editing tools.

I hope I made it clear...

Awesome. Do you use the pen tool for the lines? I always have seem to have trouble with it...

And the way you designed that circular BG is ingenious. It's so simple in concept yet so effective! Wow, why didn't I ever think of achieving that effect this way before?

I really appreciate that you took the time to explain those methods for me! Thanks much! I'd really like to learn more artistic techniques from you!

Nope, I am not good at using it too. I have a tablet so I draw lines directly. That's the easiest way.

It is a sudden inspiration, just like those you got when composing music. and the simplest is the best. XD

Sure I should share more experiences with others. So no problem.

flashygoodness In reply to hydrowing [2008-09-17 08:23:00 +0000 UTC]

Ah, I see. So you use the pencil tool then? Or maybe the brush tool...

And, yeah, I can imagine that. Sudden random inspiration is the source of nearly all my compositions. I often have to rush to my piano to quickly record it before I forget it.

And thanks for your generosity!

Oh, yea, pencil. I didn't realize it was a pencil. I just call it "line pen". -_-;

And don't mention it, it's my pleasure.

flashygoodness In reply to hydrowing [2008-09-17 18:42:38 +0000 UTC]

Hahaha, I see. I can't use the pencil tool because it's hard to draw that way with a mouse. I always use the pen tool instead, but I haven't figured out everything yet and it really screws up on me a lot. X)

hydrowing In reply to flashygoodness [2008-09-18 14:36:39 +0000 UTC]

Maybe you can try the line tool (shortcut key: N). Draw some straight lines, then use cursor (V) drag them to curved lines you want. I think this is a more effective and easy way to draw lines using mouse in Flash.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

flashygoodness In reply to hydrowing [2008-09-18 19:11:26 +0000 UTC]

I thought about doing that, but isn't it hard to connect the lines then? Or maybe I just need to find a "snap-to" option for it...

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

hydrowing In reply to flashygoodness [2008-09-19 02:05:40 +0000 UTC]

The snap-to option is annoyingly too sensitive. XD

So now is the time to use the pen tool, can be perfectly closed. Or draw some overlapped lines then delete the extra parts. I usually do that.

๐Ÿ‘: 0 โฉ: 1

flashygoodness In reply to hydrowing [2008-09-19 02:34:13 +0000 UTC]

That is true. X) Hmm, overlapped lines seems like a good idea, but too complicated for what seems to be a simple task.

Ah well, I'll try that in addition to using the pen as I already do. Thanks!
