Description
This was kinda a half request from Apoc Hedgie. Since we don't have Mecha Sonic, we decided to use Metal Sonic instead. It's still being working on as you can see, but the design process is rather interesting.I've always been under the impression that when Mecha Sonic went Super, his "gold" form was the result of extremely hot metal, not defying all sense of logic and magically changing elements. I know it may seem obvious, but I keep seeing "Super Metal Sonic" as just a gold form rather than him being hot metal.
So this is actually the first time (as far as I remember) I've actually sketched out my plan for a texture design beforehand. The reason being because I don't have any references and I needed to plan out the "heat patterns" on his body based on where the most electrical activity would take place logically while at the same time making him look cooled enough to retain structure and not melt into himself.
Also, usually when I do complete changes in textures, I'll do a lot of custom editing to the base texture to make it fits. This one was different. I've applied different "heat levels" on top of the base texture without modifying it and gave each heat layer it's own opacity. The resulting texture has a "the hotter the metal, the brighter it is" look which helps sell the illusion of it heating up. This also means the cooler the metal, the more the original color can be seen, furthering the illusion of hue being the result of heat.
