"Terry, its Melanie again...look, I know you said you didn't want to be Batman anymore, but please...we need you. I mean...*sigh*...Terry, its been weeks now. Look out your window. Gotham is a wreck without you, and there is only so much Dick, Jack, and I can do...look, please just call me back...we miss you..."

*Melanie Walker, Batgirl, could only sign, looking down at her cellphone defeated. Everyone had tried to get back to Terry after Damien Wayne forced him into 'retirement'. Everyone except for Bruce, who has been held up in his room as of late, not speaking to anyone. Eitherway, with Max acting as Oracle behind the batcomputer, and Nightwing and Robin acting as Gotham's current Dynamic Duo, Melanie knew that they were the last line of defense for Gotham.

*Gotham itself was undersiege. Crime was up almost 25%, as the rogues of Gotham saw Batman's disapperance as a chance of a lifetime to finally take Gotham for their own. Buildings all over town have been tagged with the message 'WHERE IS THE BATMAN?', looking at it as a prayer by various young citizens of Gotham for their Guardian Angel to return.

*Melanie's current mission was that of finding Inque. After her daughter was revealed to have taken melanie's former role of 10 in the Royal Flush Gang, Inque escaped from her New Arkham Cell, attempting to steal creds in an attempt to pay Dr. Robert Langstrom Jr. to somehow reverseher condition and make her human again. It was a ques that Melanie could respect, seeking her own redemption herself, but she knew that Inque's actions were wrong. She had to be stopped...

*Inque was busy knocking over an electronics expo, fleeing with dozens of pieces of technology, looking to fetch a pretty penny on the black market. When a batrope wraps around her ankle, Inque meets Batgirl for the first time.*

*Their battle is rather shortlived, as Inque makes quick work of the inexperienced Batgirl. She wraps her body around Melanie. She couldn't see. Couldn't hear. Only being able to embrace the darkness.

*Inque leaves Batgirl on the ground, forming a sharp scythe with her arma nd looking for a killing blow. However, Melanie had a trick or two ready, one that defeated Inque once before. From her belt, melanie pulls out an old toy from Inque's past: Mr. Freeze's icegun. One blast later, Inque is on ice. Batgirl stands tall the victor as a crowd of Gotham's citizens applaud Batgirl's victory.

*Back at the cave, Melanie and Mx overhear a news report.

"AND IN OTHER NEWS, THE CITIZENS OF GOTHAM COULD SLIGHTLY SLEEP EASY TONIGHT AS A HERO HAS STEPPED FORWARD TO TAKE THE LOST BATMAN'S PLACE. EVEN WITHOUT THE DARK KNIGHT'S LEADERSHIP, BATGIRL WAS STILL ABLE TO STOP THE EVIL INQUE. A HERO TIL THE END, GOTHAM IS A BETTER PLACE THANKS TO THE CAPED CRUSADERETTE."

*Melanie smiles brightly, knowing that she was finally looked at as a hero. However, her smile slowly fades. She cannot help but feel bad for Inque. All she really wanted was a second chance. Who was she to cast stones at Inque?

*Inque has been unfrozen and fitted with a collar at New Arkham that keeps her from being able to break from her human form. She was led to an interigation room as soon, a man steps inside, who she was told is a staff therapist. He greats Inque and smiles across the table at her.*

"Hello, Inque. My name is Dr. Damien Wayne. I would like to ask you a few questions about your not-too distant future..."

*Something about this man made Inque smile a sadistic smile...*
