Oh my god. you people realize that the artist doesn't get to choose what get's a DD. i still have no clue what so ever of why this was chosen as a DD so stop discussing it here. if you dont like it. tell the proper people you can find it here FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?
and as for "lumping cutting and suicide together", what can i say... i'm sorry. i'm not going to change it now, and at the time it was what was going through my mind.
for the people who are saying stuff about how cutting can be good. well. i wont lie, my best friend used to cut. she did it to relieve stress. but from my personal standpoint, i know it isn't healthy, and it is something i am very glad i never did.
and if i was refering to assisted suicide i would have put that so please stop using that as an argument as well. i was talking about self suicide. like slitting your wrists or hanging yourself and so on.
any other haters out there... well i'm sorry you feel that way i am not here to change your feelings however.

Personally I think It is a puritanical, western world fear of the unknown, fueled by papal propaganda that has made death and pain so taboo.
especially on a site created for self expression, I think that when someone emotionally feels like cutting themselves, that is their right.

They're self destructiveness is what made them the Icons they became.

True, but like we are all saying, it's not that we're against the message, simply the fact that something comletely lacking artistic merit gets recognized on the front page of an art website...
so really I guess my problem isn't with the stamp, but with the mentality that got it DD'd.
Obviously PurpelBlur thought it was a good idea (who by the way has quite a few really cute pictures of his pets, I suggest you look at his gallery if your into that), but I don't.

Yes it is. You're taking life; doesn't matter who's. Just because it's your own makes it okay? That it's your life and who cares?
Well a lot more people care then you think - and personally have seen the effects of suicide and attempted suicide have on other people.
And it's just like murder. So don't try to pass it off as okay.
And cutting is just a knock-off version of suicide the cowards use because they cannot bring themselves to commit suicide.
It's the same thing no matter what color glasses you wear or what lies you tell yourself.

I'm a professional tattoo artist, and you wouldn't believe how many people get tattooed, because it hurts.
Pain releases endorphins in your brain.
that's generally why people cut, to feel.
Do not pretend that anyone is condoning self harm, and don't pretend suicide doesn't affect everyone.
More people attempt it than you'd think.
I guess what your comment comes down to is a moral debate, not a practical one.
I would argue that taking your own life is your right, because your life is your own.
so, regardless of how many people "care", it is still your right.
Just because you care, doesn't mean that you can take away someones right to deal with their body.
this concept goes into so many other avenues as well, such as abortion, birth control, substance abuse, environmentalism, civil rights, diet... and so on.

i love how freaked out everyone in western culture is by cutting when smoking is so widely accepted. filling your lungs with chemicals and tar when you KNOW it causes cancer? can you say "long term self-mutilation"?

Exactly, I never condoned suicide, or self-harm, I just think that it compromised the integrity of a DD. this is not art. she used a template from someone else, and added text. If it was poetically profound, or was DA related I would understand.

If you have to tell someone to stop themselves from committing suicide then I think you've already lost them. I don't think telling someone, hey, stop, is going to do much. I do not agree with suicide, but I think this stamp is pointless.
