Oh my god. you people realize that the artist doesn't get to choose what get's a DD. i still have no clue what so ever of why this was chosen as a DD so stop discussing it here. if you dont like it. tell the proper people you can find it here FAQ #873: What do I do when I disapprove of a Daily Deviation feature?
and as for "lumping cutting and suicide together", what can i say... i'm sorry. i'm not going to change it now, and at the time it was what was going through my mind.
for the people who are saying stuff about how cutting can be good. well. i wont lie, my best friend used to cut. she did it to relieve stress. but from my personal standpoint, i know it isn't healthy, and it is something i am very glad i never did.
and if i was refering to assisted suicide i would have put that so please stop using that as an argument as well. i was talking about self suicide. like slitting your wrists or hanging yourself and so on.
any other haters out there... well i'm sorry you feel that way i am not here to change your feelings however.

It's a real shame how casually people can talk about it today, but I'd never consider it a simple or casual subject. It's far too terrible (and some people just do it for attention, which is even worse!).

I support it because I can't think of a situation to where someone who actually has a clue about anything would attempt it except in an odd situation like the missile's jammed and you have to fly into the laser thing to totally save the day you drunk pilot you're a damn hero.

Granted, as everybody's been saying, it is indeed your right and your choice to take your own life. But guys, don't tangle up a noble defense of freewill with support for untimely death. Not many people want to be told that they can go ahead and die and everybody will be happy for them. Small wonder so many awesome people have then done it.
Whatever position you've aligned with, I can't believe some of the comments here. Attack the idea, not the artist. And if you're arguing for freewill know that your argument must by definition also allow for freedom of opinion, so don't be so harsh.

Sure. I like how you've defended your position with examples and evidence (oh goodness, I'm sounding like an English teacher, forgive me) from your own experience. I really liked your reply to ~Aisling-M. I'm kind of trying to say the same thing here, that you may kill yourself if you so choose, but just know that it may rip the heart of of someone who loves you deeply. As you said, no one lives in a vacuum.
I... I'm trying to think how to put this. I have only seen my tiny slice of the world, and all I can say is based of of my realm of experience. So perhaps there are people and there are times when suicide has indeed been the right or only course of action. In my happy, modern, suburban, idealistic environment I find myself more inclined to suggest that suicide may be prevented- preempted- if people were caught in time and nursed back to happiness. Perhaps I am overly optimistic. I would hope everyone has a reason to live, but I may of course be wrong.
I'm sorry, you didn't ask about that. ^_^; I'm feeling very philosophical; I've never given this subject much deep thought before.
Back to what I was saying, also you're not shrieking obscenities at people and considering it some kind of valid argument to do so, which was mostly what I was getting at. (And hurra for the opposition to the DD; good intent, sure, particularly creative/artistic, not so much.)

Yes, suicide is a horribly unfortunate thing, and generally I'd say most people don't support it anyway. However, attempted suicide and cutting are cries for help, and without them people may never know something is wrong. I'm not sure if that's getting my point across clearly, but I do believe this would have been a better stamp if instead it was supporting those who are suicidal and/or cutting to get help.
And this has been said before, but why compile cutting and suicide into the same stamp? They're two different issues. One is about staying alive and the other is about ending your life. Each deserves its own stamp or whatever.

welll... *sigh* i would say that attempted suicide is a failed shot at suicide. not trying to kill yourself and purposely failing. and you have misread my stamp. you read it as i dont support the people who do these actions. I do not support the actions. the people who do these things need help

That's sometimes true but others times it's intervened. And no, that's not what I was saying. I was saying that rather than make a stamp that says "I do not support (obvious subject here)" to make a stamp encouraging awareness or the like because that would seem less offensive to same.
Yes, it can, I know that. I'm also akncowledging some use it as a stress reliever or to feel alive, althoguh that doesn't make it right.

This deviation brings attention to a very serious topic. The fact that it might spread some awareness is ALONE a good enough reason for DD. At least its sending a message worth looking at.
