I think this artist purposely never answers that question. I know there's a group of people who can't "enjoy" a TF unless it involves a complete mental and personality rewrite. I'm personally one of those types that sees that as akin to murder. (If both the "outside" and "inside" is completely and permanently different, it's no longer a TF but more of an assimilation or turning the original individual into a "flesh puppet".) By leaving it "up-in-the-air", the viewer can make their own conclusion. So...however much you want of it to be left, I'd say.
