Description This one took me a while to complete, over several days, but it was definitely worth it.

This takes place, in my head, pre-Vault but post-S&M. I've got some ideas in my head as to what this place was, let's see if you can pick up on them.

After seeing Simon and Marcy, I think that AT is sometime in the future. . . This picture defiantely looks like it too. . .Β

Cool pic btw

do you want me to answer this statement? because there's a lot of info available about what you're saying here.

more specifically, here:

Wow, I had no idea you were such an artist!

While it's very impressive that you did this with a touchpad, in MSPaint no less. I think what's most impressive is how similar to the AT art style it is, from the blades of grass, to the mountains, and most of all the beautiful sunset. I'm in awe.

Yeah, I looked at a couple of AT sunset pictures to get some colour and shading references. While the mountains and mounds were in "The Vault", I had to change their colour a bit and make them lighter due to the darkness of Vault's sunrise. For the grass I referenced All the Little People, for the sky itself I referenced Vault of Bones, I think. Β I drew everything myself of course or the composition and style would be fucked up.

It's got a nice total effect, because AT's backgrounds are more detailed than we give them credit for.

you did a really great job with this! the background is amazing especially considering the limited tools paint offers. i'm guessing this is the stadium from wizard battle?

No, dude - it's the place where the candy kingdom was built!

It's hard to tell, but that big pit there, those are the dungeons and labs underneath the place (where the "bubbleguardian" sleeps), and I have reason to believe that these dungeons existed before the CK itself. which makes me realise that PB must have built on top of it.

have you heard anything about that "canon tie in" for the new AT game?

TheAwesomeFaces In reply to icanhascheezeburger [2013-10-27 22:52:20 +0000 UTC]

actually, no! if they do a canon tie in, i'm guessing they might talk about the pre-war times a bit more than what we've seen on the show?

The canon tie-in is related to some pink gum blob creatures that are causing havok underneath the Candy Kingdom, aka to those pink gum blobs in this picture, aka to Princess Bubblegum.

Additionally, Ryan North's arc has begun to explore the same thing.

it might be, heheheh

well it might not necessarily even be in america. who knows? but one thing's for sure, there are no roads leading to this place so it's bound to be pretty secretive.

Is awesome how you can do this with the lack of a graphic tablet.

Seriously, very good work. You are good at backgrounds too.

thank you

i think that as long as we have something that can draw block pixels without going all over the place, we can draw anything in our heads eventually, even if it takes forever.Β

i tend to go for detail in terms of shadowing, although i dont usually have more than two or three block layers of shadowing. blending isn't a thing i do because then it becomes harder to edit things you want to change.

this background was fun.Β

LOOKIT DAT SEXY BACKGROUND! Seriously, you've been getting awesome at backgrounds, and using a laptop trackpad and minimal features on paint.net no less. Also a great concept, I think this deserves a round of applause.

I've been getting better at backgrounds, yep. I think though that it's because I'm getting more confident with complex sources. It takes me forever but I can always get there in the end.

maybe the forest grew over the roads.

or maybe there were never meant to be roads there because roads allow easy accessΒ

or maybe they were blown up like that building there was

either way all these theories work sort of
