Description
22" x 14"pen and ink
bad photo but wanted to put a wip up. will do a better photo when I am done. Used a photo i took as original inspiration, but from there basically filled with imagination. Or better yet, made some marks and let each cluster inform the next and got a more natural, maybe better is "original" landscape drawing. Alexander Cozens was an inspiration behind this one. His technique of blotting ink washes before painting or drawing landscapes was how I started.

ive been going back to that one here and there... I was trying to finish it but got scolded by a prof that it wasn't MFA material!!! He's a douche...but I will get that done really soon... actually almost finished. The ink blot thing is a good exercise in getting some abstract natural qualities in a drawing. Or just to add a sort of "underpainting" to a drawing. Funny how we know all this shit, or were taught it at some point but until we do it (more than once) we don't realize what an important tool it turns out being. That was my thing with ink blots. Just never did it, until I stumbled across that artists writing from the late 1700's and tried it and VOILA! it worked! ya just never know.... Your welcome in my head anytime. Just knock...the music might be up loud!![link]

just have confidence. mistakes are only bad if you don't learn anything from them. this was actually the first time I had tried drawing trees in a forest or jungle. was always scared that I didn't know how (not the up close stuff but the background trees) so I just started layering ink washes, and scribbles and voila! it started to look like trees in a jungle. Confidence is the biggest plus. No fear. Just do it! (sounds like a sports add) if you need any tips just ask. If I know Ill help.
