Description
the title itself is a play on a few words, take a guessyup those are my small hands, and that's my pentax.
shot for 's september competition themed "My Pentax"
the club can display this photo in their gallery.
the photo was taken in front of a mirror, and flipped in photoshop. the camera was set up on a tripod which was blocked by a white paper. its edges have been cloned away.there was also a white cardboard between my body and the camera. light was from a window 45degree to the left. the attached lens is FA 50mm/1.4, shutter delay of 2s. u can see literal handshake on the right
my very first shot of this kind. i feel it's lacking something.
please critique!

Very well done!!
I like how you did this, you've definately made the K10D look interesting, maybe Pentax should use this image in some of their ads....
On another note I picked up the mighty DA*16-50mm 2 weeks ago, first impressions, very large, well built, zoom ring a little too small, but overall takes great images......

Very creative! How did you set up the lighting? I would increase the contrast. However, if you increase the contrast your right hand and the background on the left side will get a lot darker. Perhaps you can use a bounce on your right hand. If you want the white background's lighting to be even I would light it independently with a diffuse light source. The gradient from right to left is pretty cool though. It's up to you.

lol, just an image i had in my mind. i used available lighting through a window. yeah, i could experiment with those, with bounce i'd get more highlights on the cam too. i'm not sure if it's possible to get an even lighting on the white bg, because shadows from my hands/camera will fall on it. thanks for the heads up tho kevin

I think it only lack some contrast, brightness and sharpness. The idea is brilliant! Did you work on the JPG file?

yeap, i was working on an uncalibrated monitor and have corrected the gamma settings now. it does lack contrast. The sharpness was deliberately more selective that an overall thingie. The lens barrel and the edge of the cam body for instance was blurred due to shallow dof. on hindsight, it probably isn't the best idea to do so.
thanks for the comment, i did work on the jpeg file. am confident it'll print out fine as well.
regarding your sig "Did you realise no one can see inside your view?"
i wonder how we could see each other's view. i'm really curious. Is it the same? a field of vision, with mayb fringes partially blocking your sight.

It looks better now!
I'd still have added some selective sharpness to the camera only, and see how it looks.
Just for the record, it's preferable to work on a RAW file converted to TIFF, then convert it in the end to JPG only for the web.
My sig: there's an Italian writer (Pirandello) who's written a lot about how we perceive ourselves, how every single person has a different perception of ourselves, and how there's a different "me" for every person I know. My sig comes from somewhere else, though: Portishead's song "Strangers". And overall, it's a thought that obsesses me. Think of it, just the way something might look beatiful for you and ugly for your friend. You try explaining why you think it's beautiful, but they still can't see it.

thanks very much for the help
ahh yeah portishead
beauty isn't universal (?) lol i mean, for example, the animal kingdom look for the same few traits in their mates, but human beings are... moooooooooooooooooooooooooooreeeeeeeeeee eeeeeeeee complicated. ishh

Indeed we're more complicated! That's called "evolution". Even though scientists still think we look for simmetry and a hypothetical universal beauty, or other characteristics that came handy at the time of caves...

I like this a lot. It's a great concept. I think it would have been even better with more negative space at the top.

nice idea ... for a moment I thought you threw your camera in the air and than caught it again ... would be waaay to risky, so I forgot this idea
