This tutorial looks like a lot of fun! Defientaly more intersting than my usual shading :3 Gonna try it soon!
But.. One quick question, what did you plan on doing to the mane(or were you going to leave it plain)??

I used to gradient shade by erasing more of my lasso tool edges with the eraser on 40% or similar methos..this looks way better but i seem to do soemthing wrong. When i want to fill places with the gradient,it always covers other parts of the image i shaded before Too.. when i use the lasso tool so that it only goes within the area,it gives me a bright pixely edge around the selected area after placing the gradient,even if i work on an empty layer above. do you know what i do wrong? since others seem to get it right but by all tuts ive been through i cant realyl find a mistake of mine,but i might have overseen soemthing ..or does th egradient tool always do it? D:

why doesn't the purple gradient option come up I can't pick that one....why don't I have as many choices to pick from...AHHHH....... NOOOOOO D: I love your tutorial and I can't even use it
do I have to make one? I wonder why I don't have those options to pick from? What should I do D: by the way I have Photoshop CS4, does that make a difference? Thank you so much for your time
and sorry for my bad grammar...it's quite late where I am...I'm tired

Her gradient option is only purple because that's what colour she (he?) had selected at the time. Say if you've got black currently selected, it'll show up as black > transparent, brown will be brown > transparent etc. The important thing is that when you pick your gradient, you pick the one that is second from the left in the top row. Changing the colour of it is easy. (:
By the way, wonderful tutorial.(;
