If I remember correctly, the Waynes were one of several wealthy Gotham families.

Actually , Lex finds out that Supes was Clark all along ... and he DENIES it ! He is so convinced that Superman has a God complex that he can't believe that Kent's just a regular reporter with an everyday life.
With Bruce, I think it gets ridiculous in the Rucka/Brubaker run. you have the new bodyguard ( that Rucka basically makes a protagonist !) and PAF she discovers that Bruce is Batman because he did not take enough caution (or because of Rucka's lack of subtlety !)

yes i knew that. when Superman first showed up Lex also thought he was just a rival company's attempt to upstage LexCorp's latest achievement
interesting

Although, at least Bruce doesn't put any Wayne Industries logos on his Bat-themed gadgets and transportation. Now THAT would have raised suspicion.

Gotham city is the Wall Street of DCU, there are a lot ofΒ millionaires and billionaires there.Β Bruce Wayne isn't the only person in Gotham who could afford the Batman's arsenal, nor is he the most likely.

Even if Bruce was suspected to be the person who provide Batman his toys, people are NOT likely going to think Bruce Wayne is the Batman. They are too dissimilar personality wise, not to mention, the general consensus of the Gotham public is that the Batman is 6'4 while Bruce Wayne is only 6'2. He is too short to be the Batman, lol.

Personally I think the worst is when some point when DC decided somewhere during the 2000s that most people didn't even know Batman existed. How the hell does that even work when he spent over 20 years on the Justice League!?

The same way it works that Aquaman has been a badass since his creation, yet everyone only judges him by a cheesy 70's cartoon.

GodDragonKing In reply to ImdaBatman [2014-01-31 03:04:46 +0000 UTC]
That doesn't seem like the same idea to me. Aquaman is somebody judged by people who pick up on memes that wore themselves before the internet came into existence, Batman I was talking about a change that was made to how he was perceived in-universe that makes no sense given how long he was around for, especially on the Justice League.

Trust me no one suspects Bruce Wayne is Batman. That idea is as ridiculous to Gothamites as the idea of Ben Affleck playing Batman is to us. Here's a video that shows what must go through a Gothamites mind when it's suggested that Bruce Wayne is Batman:

He totally doesn't sleep all day; he's got a business to run--plus he has to be Batman during the day sometimes. He's shown, during Grant Morrisson's run on the Batman comic, to use micro-naps (if the art is to be believed they're about 5 minutes long o_O) and in Beware the Batman he claims to only need 4 hours of sleep and is shown buying bovine glands, or something like that, to help get it down to 2 hours. He's just awesome that way. I could totally see him "sleeping in" for 2-4 hours after dawn before going to the Wayne Enterprises office. Plus, that's a good point about everyone assuming he parties, lol .

They all think he sleeps all day b/c he was partying all night. I mean, come on! Batman is scary, brilliant, tough, and gets things done. Bruce Wayne is a goofball playboy who doesn't know the meaning of responsibility. Would you guess that it was him? Besides, Batman could get all those gagets from someone who does have money and technology.

ImdaBatman In reply to megymegan [2013-06-05 03:55:36 +0000 UTC]
Okay, fair enough. But there's also the fact that Bruce vanished off the face of the Earth for years and Batman started showing up shortly after his return.

Except that Thomas Elliot/Hush, who had recently given himself plastic surgery to look exactly like Bruce Wayne, was posing as him (after a brief period where Wayne was "missing"). Not to mention that Dick Grayson took up the role of Batman while Bruce was gone and kept it after Bruce came back while Bruce was going around the world recruiting superheroes in other countries into Batman Inc.

Spider-boyN2Jesus In reply to ImdaBatman [2013-08-30 08:40:53 +0000 UTC]
Well, he's Bruce Wayne; his parents are killed he struggles school drops out of high school disapears, comes back and screws around for a while and THEN Batman shows up. You have to remember that he wasn't completely ready to be Batman when he got back from his training. It took him a little while ot figure everything out .

Hmmm...true. But here are a lot of people in Gotham. He probably wasn't the only one to arrive at that time. Yes, he should at least be on the suspect list of Batman's secret identity, but there would be other people on it too.

in fact, he really barely sleeps, you can see in most of the comics days when he sleep 2 hours or when the last time he was on the bed, was 52 hours earlier, also, in the comics it's supposed that the people thinks that there's is only one robin, not three.....true story

Heh, "52 hours earlier". 'Cuz it's DC.
How did they explain one kid going through puberty 3 times?

Spider-boyN2Jesus In reply to ImdaBatman [2013-08-24 06:00:29 +0000 UTC]
Urban legend. Few people have actually met him in person. Plus Tim Drake was 13 when he became Robin so I'm betting he'd already hit puberty .

Me neither! I really want to be able to finally go swooping around Gotham proper!
Although, I heard that the title was Arkham World. What sort of storyline could possibly justify that?

They actually confirmed Joker was just messing with us. (Literally. At the Spike awards, he had a script saying "Batman: Arkham World" and said it was a spoiler)
I hear the next one will be a prequel showing how Batman & Joker met. Plus, it'll have the Justice League.

That's what I was talking about! Thank the Bat-gods for that!
And the Justice League? If they do it right, it'll be AWESOME! I just hope they dont objectify Wonder Woman. And that they add in a Batgirl!

ImdaBatman In reply to JediOrSithAH [2012-09-08 05:45:11 +0000 UTC]
(Looks up "objectify") I doubt they will. I mean, it's Wonder Woman. It's in the name.
Yeah. Finally seeing an Arkham-verse Batgirl would be cool.
That reminds me, you know why the Black Mask DLC campaign let me down?

I think it should be Cassandra Cain! She'd totally fit. And they should make Nightwing speak/a playable character.
Hm. Nope, I don't. Care to enlighten me?
ps: Sorry about using big words all the time. I read a lot, so they just sorta creep in...

I agree with both, but, it's a prequel. In the comics, Batman & Joker met before Dick Grayson became the first Robin.
Robin was tracking down and beating up Black Mask. Am I the only one who can remember why Tim would have some kind of personnel vendetta against him? Here's some hints: eggplant-wearing. Same first name as a kid from "Full House" (my sister is a big fan of that show, so I've seen a few episodes)
S'alright. That's great.

Oh! Was that the BS comic with Stephanie Brown getting totally beat up by Black Mask and Batman refusing her medical attention so she died?
And, the continuity in this universe is played with. Like in "The Batman" cartoon, Batgirl could have been Batman's partner before Robin.

Bingo. (Wait, Bats brought her to a doctor) If there's one thing I've learned by reading Spider-Man, it's that the bad guy killing the hero's girlfriend leads to the hero going on a vengeful rampage.
True.

JediOrSithAH In reply to ImdaBatman [2012-09-13 01:42:03 +0000 UTC]
Then the doctor denied the treatment.
Did Tim go on the rampage? In my head, he's always been very emotionally detached, so he might not have.

Yeah, because she faked her death.
He didn't even show any signs of missing her until the story where she returned. I blame the writers.

JediOrSithAH In reply to ImdaBatman [2012-09-13 23:02:31 +0000 UTC]
`why in the world would she have faked her death? She was only a small-time superhero at the time.
...Well, while the writers are to blame, I, as a Tim/Kon shipper, cite that as an example!
