Description
Let me tell you a story about a boy who once saw Tim Burton's "Batman" on cable in, 2008, I think. It was the scene in the church where Batman and Joker were about to face off. The boy was so excited. The film had been building up to a dramatic confrontation to the two arch-enemies, and now it looked like they were about to settle it once and for all in good old-fashioned fisticuffs. Then the Joker practically broke his hand punching Batman in THAT GODDAMN RUBBER ARMOR!
You see, as the boy soon learned, though some version of the Joker were portrayed as a capable fighter and a physical match for Batman, VERY few writers (or fans) were actually aware of this. As such, Joker had built up a reputation as a very poor fighter. And frankly, the boy thought it was the biggest disappointment in a superhero movie he would ever see.
And then that boy saw "Iron Man 3". And, to put it lightly, I was very, VERY wrong.
Plot twist, SHLOT TWIST! You don't spent all those trailers building up to a movie where, after starring and guest-starring in three other movies, (and even a cameo at the end of another) Iron Man FINALLY takes on his classic arch-nemesis, only for him to be A FUCKING ACTOR HIRED TO BE A RED FUCKING HERRING!!! Nobody gives a fuck if "it seems racist to have a Chinese bad guy". (He wasn't even Chinese in this movie) WAY more people (myself included) are more concerned about being respectful to the source material it all originated from.
At least "Barakapool" has the excuse of being created by FOX, a studio that has f*cked up on the X-Men before. But how, I ask you, could the MARVEL CINEMATIC UNIVERSE that we've all come to love and trust, that we have all put our faith in, flop this majorly?! I could deal with how much I missed Tony having a secret identity. But THIS? A lot of people give "Man of Steel" sh*t, (note to self: make a separate demotivational about that at a later date) but even if General Zod never said "kneel before Zod", (literally an essential part of his character) at least HE was actually a decent villain!
Rant over.
Disclaimer: Iron Man owned by Marvel. Batman owned by DC. (Though at this point, it's questionable as to whether they even deserve them anymore)

Hopefully they use the real Mandarin after building our hopes up with the Marvel One-Shot: All Hail the King. I think the Mandarin should be first introduced in Black Panther 2, since learning about a comicbook story-line that he resurrects Killmonger.Β
From Wikipedia:
Using his rings, the Mandarin was able to amplify the Resurrection Altar and restore Killmonger to life. Killmonger returned to his lover and ally, Madam Slay, and the two plotted to kill the Black Panther and return Wakanda to its ancient ways.
While Tony Stark visited Wakanda, Madam Slay drugged Jim Rhodes and took him prisoner. Killmonger appeared to have killed the Black Panther, and blamed Rhodes and Stark, convincing the Wakandans that he could lead them to vengeance. The Black Panther returned, revealing that he had faked his death using a Life Model Decoy. The Black Panther defeated Killmonger. The Mandarin recalled his ring, and Killmonger reverted to an inanimate skeleton. Killmonger's followers resurrected him again and he would clash with T'Challa on several other occasions.
Black Panther 2 could be a bit of a build-up for Iron Man 4. I also hope they donβt give in to political correctness and just cast a Chinese actor to be the Mandarin. There is nothing racist about a Chinese villain. They had Jet Li as the villain in The Mummy: Tomb of the Dragon Emperor.

Yeah. And the MCU has already started having Chinese villains anyway with Madame Gao.Β marvelcinematicuniverse.wikia.β¦
If they can have characters like Madame Gao, then they should be able to have the Mandarin himself.

Because nothing says "pretty believable" better than a guy who got magical rings from an alien dragon trying to restore China to it's pre-comunnism days.

Honestly, combining both ideas would be great.
Because it would be scary that a shadowy terrorist who wants to turn China back to feudal times in terms of societal and political system who already has a massive terrorist organization in his control also gets to have powerful alien technology rings from space.
To make it even scarier, make the aliens that created the rings unknown for the first time The Mandarin appears to keep the audience guessing.
And save Fin Fang Foom for a superhero comedy movie.

ImdaBatman In reply to iceblueflare [2015-03-10 22:33:53 +0000 UTC]
Well either way, your summary wasn't even accurate. The rings are technology from an alien race called Makulans (see? Mandarin was doing that long before Thor made it cool)
Actually, I would have been just fine with what the trailers were building him up to be: a shadowy terrorist leader. At least then he'd still be an effective supervillain. It's the fact that they made him the punchline to a terrible joke that I can't stand.

MetalGearPlasma In reply to ImdaBatman [2019-10-29 21:39:43 +0000 UTC]
Personally, I would have preferred if they combined both: A shadowy terrorist leader as well as a supervillain with rings that are alien technology from the Makulans.
That way, it will combine real-world villainy with fantasy villainy, kinda like what MCU usually does with most of their supervillains.

As some one who has been reading Ironman and Batman comics since the 80's, I thought they did alright. I also remember Ceaser Romero's Joker, which was much less physical then Old Jack.Β (Different Era, more Camp)Β Also you only saw Batman in 2008? That was almost 20 years after it was released. If you compare it to Christopher Nolan's works it's much closer to the mark. And Nolan is closer to what fans wanted compared to Schumacher's Abominations. Thing is, Each movie is based on a Different Era in the Comics, and Each era had different writers. So despite each being radically different they actually *were* true to at least one incarnation of the comic. Also I would like to point out that the "Rings" in this one was not the real Rings from Ironman. The "Mandarin" was borrowing rep from the Real terrorist group. (as Revealed in extended miniseries).
As Far as Superman? EH...
I rooted for Zod. Before him I rooted for Lex.
And Honestly, if you *REALLY* want to see Racist? I am not talking about white washing a Villian so you won't have Minority groups complaining...
Read some 1960's Era Cap America.

Ah. Just figured out why you thinking of the More Physical jokers. You grew up with the post 2000's Cartoons. Dude, They are awesome but almost 60 years of comic history happened before that, and the Joker more often then not is closer to Old Jack's (80-90's) and Romero's (40's-70's) Considering it was 1989 I would challenge you to find more then a couple of Issues where the Joker would go toe to toe and even hold his own.

How Iron Man 3 would have been perfect: A) Make the Mandaring like he should have been. B) At the end, instead of getting the freaky fire powers, Pepper puts on one of the many ironman suits flying around, and calls herself "Rescue", then we get Iron Man spinoff with female superheroe that would be popular because you used Ironman movies to build her up.
