Sometimes Xephos would go to the top of the mountain, take off his armour, put down his tools, and just lie back to watch the stars. The hum of the big H building's machines, or the crickets of Sjin's farm. Or even the trees being cut down at Sipsco behind him.

Each time he would stare off into the great abyss of space, the vast possibilities in front of him, just out of reach. He would raise his hand to the air, and imagine his fingers intertwining with the black canvas, grasping it and pulling it from the sky. But of course, that couldn't really happen. So he would lower his hands to his sides again and look up at the many stars and strange mixes in the colours. The sky was never fully black at night. It contained swirled of purple, red, blue. And if he was an artist he was sure he could paint the sky just how he saw it, but no one else seemed to see it the way he did.

And then, the final thing he would do would be to close his eyes, take a deep breathe and say -

"When I wake up... I'll be home..."

The first time he had said this, he'd meant it. He didn't like how Honeydew attempted to look after him all the time, or how he would make him eat or sleep or question his... Alien parts. Like his tail or pointed ears. Or even his eyes. But of course, when he opened his eyes once again, he was still stuck on that world. The world he didn't belong.

Every so often since that he would do the same, climb up to the top of a nearby hill, watch the stars, and say his prayer. Only now, when he said it, his tone would be saddened, almost frightened. He didn't want to wake up and be back home. He was home.

This time was no different. He took a little longer looking at the stars, before reluctantly closing his eyes.

"When I wake up... I'll be home..." He whispered to himself, fear present in his voice. He then sat up, and slowly opened his eyes, breathing a sigh of relief before bringing his hands to his face, clenching his eyes together and running his hands through his hair.

As Honeydew noticed him he walked slowly up the hill, towards his friend, placing a hand on his shoulder. "Xeph..." He said. For all the times the spaceman had been up on that hill he had never cried. "Its ok..." The dwarf said. He didn't care what his friend was crying about, he had to do what he always did. Comfort him. He placed an arm around his friends shoulders and Xephos leant against him, tears still streaming down his face and staining his cheeks. He let the dwarf shush him and lul him to sleep like usual, and pretty soon the dwarf chuckled, stood, and carried the spaceman inside.

It had been a long day...

And when Xephos woke up...
He would be home...
