Whenever I go on to write commissions, I can't resist getting some for myself as well and this is the latest one I got, a more cartoon-like version of the muses, both Sexy and Writer as drawn by the massively talented .

A lot of the commissions I got with those two in the past went more along the path of Japanese-style animation, rendering and style, which makes this piece pop up all the more with the exaggerated proportions, the expressions, the angular approach to curves in some places and the sheer energy behind this version of them. The mischief and confidence of Sexy, the more focused-yet-insecure and serious attitude of Writer, all portrayed pretty well in a funny manner. Really, it's pretty amazing.

THE MUSES AND THE PURGE

Writer looked at the gallery in silence.

More than a hundred stories, both chapters and done-in-one, had been removed, gone from this place which served as the monument, the spot in which to find all of her work. Collaborations, the fruit of concepts given life, of countless hours and the will to put it all out there, snuffed out in but a few hours, for reasons that were somewhat legitimate, yet frustrating. Gone were the discoveries of sexuality through dancing, hypnosis and romance by the way of Link in his Gerudo outfit dueling with Urbosa. The manipulations of Nega Shantae, going through Shantae's friends one by one to get back at her, to get her revenge. Countless fantasies, each explored through themes and writing techniques that she had enjoyed experimenting with, gone after thousands of views, hundreds of likes, reactions going from every directions, yet which all meant one singular and important thing to her: people had read those stories and it gave them something. Rage, indignation, joy, arousal, puzzlement, a myriad of ways to process the reading experience that she had her hand in, for good or for ill.

And again, she would not really fathom that it was all gone...And that it wouldn't come back.

Caught in her melancholy, flipping through pages of notes that each brought back memories to each of those tales, she was gone from the world, trapped within her own mind and her own quiet sadness until she was snapped out of it by a ferocious and rather sudden strike, a bump that caused her to be propelled in the air. Broken away from her inner thoughts, her expression changed from calm bitterness to shock as she recognized immediately the voice that followed suit to this sudden action.

“Hip bump!” the voice said, a playful and always rather mischievous one that belonged to her counterpart, Sexy. “Critical hit! It's super effective!”

With this reference not going over her head, yet not necessarily welcome nonetheless, Writer had dropped her book as she saw that Sexy had indeed used her generous and wide hips as a makeshift weapon, most certainly doing a hip bump powered up with her knees to ensure that they would snap as far and rapidly as possible, providing for an efficient attack to her being.

“Come on, Writer. You can't be sad forever,” Sexy said, a little smirk on her face, trying to obviously lighten the mood as she picked up Writer's book, something she usually never let go of for whichever reason. That it was on the ground after so weak an “attack” was a good indicative of deeper problems. “I mean...Come on.”

“We've lost so many stories, Sexy,” Writer said, picking the book back in her hands, flipping through the pages as to illustrate what she meant by showing excerpts and notes. “All those ideas that you came up with, that we worked together on! Your perverted streak and your depravity! Your boldness and open-minded nature! My own penchant for putting wider emphasis on character development, or unique situations...All gone!”

“Oh, Writer...” Sexy said, placing a hand on Writer's shoulder so as to help her calm down. Looking into her eyes, she tried to be a little less impulsive for the time being, her own way of making her stop being in her head indeed working, yet not resolving the problem. “Those stories aren't gone. Far from it, in fact.”

A little silence, a pondering upon those words and Writer did take a few deep breaths before replying, trying indeed to see the situation in a whole new angle. “Yes...Yes...You're right. Those stories aren't gone, it's true,” Writer said, readjusting her glasses and closing her book to gain a view of the bigger picture. “They were all read and had their impact. They influenced people, found their way in the mind and heart of plenty of people. They existed and people read them. You're absolutely correct, Sexy.”

“Uhhhh...Yeah, all of that, of course, sure,” Sexy said, a little flabbergasted about this turn of nerves to a bout of existential introspection. “What I meant is that they can be found elsewhere...Like, you know, Furaffinity, Fanfiction and Hentai-Foundry.”

Of course Sexy would be more literal in her analysis of the situation, as Writer should have expected. The thing is, she wasn't wrong per se. Those sites could indeed hold up their work and propagate them to other channels, make it so they'd be available to read online, yet not on Deviantart. “It's just not the same, though,” Writer lamented, unable not to see the holes in the gallery that once housed more than 650 deviations, yet which now showcased less. “It's really not the same.”

“Of course not. I mean, our stuff is openly on a porn/smut/erotica site now, which is kinda fitting, to be honest,” Sexy said, remembering some of the pieces she found there and smirking a little, a wicked little smile on her lips. “Oh the things I've found there...So good~”

“Of course you'd like it there,” Writer said, rolling her eyes at this rather expected reaction from her counterpart. “There are things that I do like there...But I can't say I like their system as much as I do with our main gallery, though.”

“Give it time. It's just different and he doesn't have a following there...Yet,” Sexy said, bizarrely acting as the voice of reason in this situation, showing that there was wisdom in her more impulsive and uninhibited behavior. “But I get it, it's different and it's not a change that we actually wanted, more of a reaction than anything else. It was kinda bound to happen, though, and you know it.”

Oh yes she knew. Writer was aware that they were playing with fire, that the more they wrote erotica on a site that prohibited it, the higher the chances of running amok with the moderators and the more prude members of the site itself. Truly, they had been blessed to be so active, to have gained a following, to be free from restraint for so long a period of time. “Yeah, but it still stings.”

“Believe me, I know. But what's done is done,” Sexy said, shrugging it off as she looked at some of the new material made for the gallery, the main one, and she smiled. “We're still good, though.”

“How so?” Writer said, not exactly seeing the bright side to all of this, feeling rushed and somewhat violated after all of this. “I mean, we have to be super careful now on our main gallery or else they'll flag and remove our stuff. Things will never be the same again, to steal an old technique from comics solicitations in catalogs.”

“Things will be the exact same. We're still writing, we're still doing the very same thing we've always done,” Sexy said, looking at the story in which the main character from My Hero Academia got changed in a Shantae-like genie, or the finale of the Lamp of Hypnos, a story that they started way back. “We're still working together, people haven't left or abandoned us, far from it, and we still have plenty of ideas. Really...Things haven't changed at all.”

It took her some time to truly consider it, to weight in on the good and bad and, really, it had been inconveniencing, but Sexy was right on the money. They still had an audience who enjoyed what they did, they had clients for commissions, they still wrote as much as they used to...They even had expanded their limits too. Really, as hard as it was to take initially, it wasn't so bad in perspective. “Wow...You're correct in many ways,” Writer said, breathing a sigh of relief as she was ever the anxious one, the hard-working part that needed to coalesce all those ideas into narrative, into new ways to experiment and to present those concepts into something palatable and intriguing. Hers was a nerve-wracking job, a precise task done with a panoply of details to think about, to juggle with. Yet she wasn't always able to see the big picture, the larger canvas of the situation. “But did you really need to attack me with your hips to get my attention?”

“Heck yeah I did,” Sexy said, doing a powerful bump again to prove how good she could be with such an attack, propelling Writer half a meter away with high-speed and might. “We can't have you being lost in your head right now, we have commissions to write! Get to it~”

Another bump and Writer got the message as she opened her book and began to take notes, trying to pinpoint how to convey the feelings along with the concepts thrown at her. It was true, it seemed. She was still writing, coming up with ideas and techniques to go along with the desires of the many, including him, the clients and Sexy. Nothing had really changed.

And she was thankful for it.
