Description
     I dreamed I stood at the edge of an ocean. It’s clear water washing over my bare feet. The ocean stretched out in front of me, glistening under a white sun in an utterly cloudless sky. Behind me was a vast desert, flat as far as the eye could see until it met at the horizon with the seamless blue sky. Although it was a desert, it was not in the least unattractive. In fact, the sand far excelled attractive, beautiful in it’s simple serenity. A salty wind from the ocean blew around me, catching my long brown hair and causing the simple white dress I wore to dance playfully around my legs. All was silent save for the beautiful sound of the waves washing up on shore, then receding, and continuing the process over and over. Not another living thing existed it seemed, that is, until I heard a kind, soft, voice behind me.

      Although I really didn’t hear any words, I knew it had called my name. I turned to see where such a soothing voice could have come from. A man stood not fifteen feet away from me. I had never seen such a gorgeous man in my life. Reddish-gold hair came down in curls around his perfect face. His blue eyes were shining with wisdom and soft-spoken gentleness. The mixture of his fair skin and beautiful features was absolutely breathtaking. Somehow I knew, without knowing how I knew, that his name was Gabriel, and he would not harm me. His graceful hand was beckoning me to come forward.

     Beyond him I could see a huge, majestic city, made completely out of the same sort of sand stone the desert was. It sparkled and nearly seemed to sing in the bright sunlight. A high wall surrounded the city, again out of the same stone, as if to protect it. From what, I couldn’t imagine.

     Before I realized it, I was following Gabriel into the city. He held my hand loosely, leading me through the weaving streets. We were on what I assumed to be the main street, for it seemed to be a giant marketplace. Everywhere I looked there were stands selling everything imaginable; bright colored rugs, expensive jewelry, and other fascinating trinkets. Besides the massive amounts of merchandise, the street was also overflowed with people of every class. The people were dark skinned, and had even darker hair. They were people of the desert, which wasn’t surprising considering the surroundings.

     What struck me was how much they contrasted with the young man who lead me along. While they were dark, not only in features, but also appeared to be steeped in sins; the man in front of me was fair and pure. Obviously Gabriel was not of this nation. Especially since the people of the city seemed to avoid him and look down upon him. As we walked along I could hear mutterings in their language, I knew they were not wishing us well. A few of the braver people would shout things as he passed, some even spit at him, while others jeered and laughed. I was deeply troubled by this. But Gabriel seemed not to care; in fact, he seemed not to notice at all. That is, until I looked at his eyes, although on the outside he was calm and seemed not to be affected by their actions, his eyes told a story of hurt, and pain. I felt sorry for him, and wanted to protect him, but I felt I could do nothing, for I didn’t know anything about him. I hoped whatever it was he wanted to show me would help me understand him a little more, that way I may even be able to help his tortured soul.  I silently walked on, grasping his hand just a bit tighter than before.
