Monica's a fun character.Β Growing up, I know a few fans didn't like her because she felt like a Sue.Β I didn't (okay, it was weird she was leading the Avengers less than a year after appearing despite having no military background, leadership skills, or experience).Β I think the problem was Monica felt more like a DC character than a Marvel one.
She had no tragic background, came from a loving family with still living parents (how rare is that in comics?), her powers weren't a curse, and she became a hero because it simply felt like the right thing to do.Β She was the complete inverse of the archetype popularized by Stan Lee.Β While other heroes angst about their powers, she used hers to fly to Paris to eat crepes whenever she wanted.
This is good, not every character has to be the same.Β This was a huge problem for DC at the launch of the new52 when Dan DiDio made it policy that every character had to be as similar to Batman as possible.Β Some creative teams like Batwoman's left because they hated this ruling.

I'll never forgive him for what he did to Mr. Freeze, one of my favorite villains.Β Due to his "no marriage" policy also extending to villains for some dumb reason, Victor Fries went from a complex morally conflicted individual who just wanted to save his wife to become just another psycho who only imagined Nora and was just a delusional murderer.

I have one comic staring Freeze before his reinvention from TAS and he's a bulky ice wrestler from Underworld Unleashed.Β It's rather... strange.

Me too. Many fans think she has too little exposure precisely because she's VERY powerful; if she had more 'screen time', and more chances to use her power at full capacity, she'd be so strong it would be hard to give her a challenge.Β

Monica's had ample exposure. It's just that nobody takes her character seriously.
Her most well-known appearance was in a satire comic that portrayed her as a washed-up has-been who can't let go of her single career success, and other appearances usually involve her complaining that other superheroes keep stealing her codenames.Β
