"Daddy…I'm sorry, but you've got this all wrong," Vexa-Lai sighed, taking off her Father's goggles and tossing them on a chair. Larx-Mer, working on a droid of some sort, blinked and looked up at his oldest daughter, thoroughly confused."Dear Vexa-Lai, what do you mean, 'I have this all wrong'?" he asked, shocked at what she was saying. Vexa-Lai thought of a good way of phrasing what she was about to tell him, rubbing the back of her head, blushing a bit.
"Well, I-" she began before she was interrupted by Des-pear barging in.
"Wait, wait, wait, Slight!?" he yelled, looking to Larx-Mer, completely ignoring the fact that Vexa-Lai was there, and that she had just been talking. Larx-Mer rolled his gentle green eyes.
"That is what I said, correct?" he replied, coldly. No sooner had the old Vortian said that then Des-pear went to grab his missing rocket launcher.
"Shit! I left it on the ship!" he growled before pushing his ex-girlfriend out of the way of a plasma bolt, Keen standing in the doorway. Vexa-Lai growled and tried to pry him off of her.
"Get off of me!" she commanded, not at all thankful or kindhearted.
"You're welcome," Des-pear muttered under his breath before letting her go. Keen just stood there.
"Larx I suggest you go into the back room and check on the projects…" he said, a bit quietly. Larx-Mer raised an eyebrow and looked at him.
"And why is that?" he asked as Vexa-Lai walked over to stand by his side. Keen rubbed his face.
"One is a rebel and the other one is a spy…both must be terminated before any harm comes to the lab or workers," he replied. Larx-Mer sighed and turned to the intercom.
"I'll just have Shiarain or Tiessa handle it," he said calmly, calling their names. Vexa-Lai looked at him worriedly and sat down on his workbench; Des-pear was now gone; he had vanished while Keen was talking. Keen looked around, confused.
"…where did the rebel go?" he asked. Humming, Larx-Mer turned back around.
"They're going…and what?" he asked gently. Keen then pointed to where Des-pear had been sitting.
He was now setting up explosives under the lab.
Vexa-Lai looked angrily to where he had been standing. "OH THAT ASSHOLE!" she shouted before storming out. Larx-Mer sighed and turned to rub his head.
"Women these days."
*****
Marching down the hall while getting her grey captain jacket on, Vexa-Lai came across young Exeema, who was busy with trying to get a sword out of the ceiling of the ship. Vexa-Lai sighed and knelt down besides her.
"What are you doing?" the motherly Vortian asked the little Irken.
"I'm-"
"Don't even answer, just…do something constructive!" Vexa-Lai ordered the Irken girl before marching off again. Exeema growled and crossed her arms.
"WELL, someone has a BUG UP HER ASS today!" she hissed, then stomped off to find Larx-Mer. Vexa-Lai's eyes widened as she paused and clenched her fists, then sighed and shook her head.
"Kids these days," she muttered to herself before walking off angrily again. Barely after she had started walking, Des-pear ran up to her frantically.
"Where's your Dad…and anyone else of importance for that matter!?" he asked. Vexa-Lai's fists immediately clenched at her sides again.
"Well for starters, the little brat just ran off!" she growled, still mad about Exeema telling her off. Des-pear hit his head on his palm.
"Just go and grab people of importance, this place is about to blow!" he ordered her. Vexa-Lai blinked, even more angry than before.
"What the…HELL did you do!?" she barked.
"Set the explosives, but the damn elite Irken bastard hit the detonator, turning everything on!" he yelled back to her. Vexa-Lai bit her lip to stop herself from yelling. Instead, she let out a muffled. "You idiot…" Des-pear looked at her, angrily.
"Hey we can't let Slight live, he's a danger to everyone here and the rebellion, Earth…hell, even the empire!"
"SO YOU BLOW UP THE SHIP!? How much of a moron are you!?" she screamed at him. Des-pear grabbed her arm and dragged her to the "backroom", where all of Slight's clones were stored.
"That's why." Vexa-Lai slapped his hand.
"Let go of me!" she commanded him through gritted teeth. Des-pear paused.
"Oh shit."
All the tanks opened up, and out stepped clones of Slight with liquid metal armor over their regular clothes.
"Rebel," one said.
"Oh SHIT!" Des-pear yelled as he ran out of the lab as they began to shoot.
"Yes, fucking fantastic!" Vexa-Lai growled before running out as well. As Des-pear ran off, she stopped by Exeema and picked her up. "Get to my ship now, all right?" she ordered Exeter and Seema's daughter. Exeema blinked.
"What about you?" she asked. Vexa-Lai put her back down.
"Trust me kid, if anyone is dying today it will be me, and that's all right," she replied.
"Nooooooot on my watch!" Des-pear said as he ran up with his rocket launcher. Vexa-Lai rolled her eyes and kissed the top of Exeema's head.
"Just tell anyone you pass by to do the same thing, understand?" she ordered. Exeema nodded and ran off.
"All right, I got one shot left…" Des-Pear sighed. "Literally." He leaned in, kissed his ex-lover, and reloaded his rocket launcher. "See you in hell, need to finish this thing before it starts." After that, he ran off, leaving Vexa-Lai standing there, wide eyed. Not too long after, she could hear his voice over the intercom.
"HELLO, THE INSANE BASTARD WILL SEE YOU NOW!" he yelled. Even more angry than before, she ran after him.
"WHAT THE HELL WAS THAT!?"
*****
Exeema pulled on the sleeve of her Mother's uniform, trying to get her to enter the ship with her. "Mom, come on, Miss Lai sounded really urgent!" she whined, scared. Seema looked up to see Keen walking down the hall. She shoved Exeema into Vexa-Lai's ship and immediately started getting in after her, but Keen grabbed her arm. Unwillingly, she looked up at him.
"Yes?" she asked, a bit harshly. He paused for a moment before examining her grey eyes.
"Silver, do…I know you from before all of this?" he asked, unsure if his gut feeling was true or not. Seema pulled her arm out of his grip.
"Says the man who can't even remember my real name," she growled before getting into the ship with her daughter and closing the door.
*****
Des-pear stood in the core room, surrounded by elites. "I have one shot left, and this thing"-he pat the core-"is really explosive…so…" he put his rocket launcher to the core. Keen, who had just ran back in, stared.
"You'll kill yourself," he pointed out. Des-pear paused momentarily.
"…I've survived worse," he said with a grin. Not too soon after the words had left his mouth, Vexa-Lai ran in and powerfully punched him in the face.
"NO ONE leaves me hanging like that, do you understand!?" she barked before grabbing him by the front of his shirt and kissing him. Before any of the Irkens could make another move, Des-pear kissed her and shot the core.
*****
"I love you, you bastard," Vexa-Lai said through gritted teeth once she and Des-pear were on her ship, her in her usual command seat. "You can piss me off so much sometimes…" Des-pear blinked and looked to her, confused.
"What? I didn't do anything 'cept blow up an entire empire ship, thinking I might kill myself on accident," he replied nonchalantly. Angrily, Vexa-Lai hopped up from her seat.
"Exactly!" she glared at him. Des-pear rolled his eyes, grabbed her by the arm, and pulled her onto his lap.
"You drive me insane…in the good way," he chuckled. Vexa-Lai rolled her eyes.
"I do have that effect on people," she said before getting back on her feet.
"Now I'll demonstrate that effect more later…after I speak to my Dad about some things."
