Description
*collapses to the ground in a heap*Ugh, finally got this done XD Now I don't need to worry about that deadline anymore *huge sigh of relief*
This is my character reference for
Callous is going to be very interesting to work with XD He's basicaly the mental opposite of Saik; calm, cool and without much emotion XD
Sorry there's no reference of his rifle- quite honestly I just don't feel like researching several rifles and trying to come up with a design at the moment :/ So draw him up with whatever kind you like XD
Alright, text-wall time!
Name: Callous
Appearance: A tall, dark skinned irken with a strong build. Has a crimson elite squad tattoo in the middle of his forehead, and crimson eyes. His antennae have been cut off just above his head, and stick up like horns. He always wears the metal elite faceguard, which covers his mouth and hides the four large seams that come from the corners. His standard uniform is dark grey, with darker shoulder guards and a collar that comes almost up to his eyes. His arms are bare, and wrapped around his upper right arm is a black ribbon. He has silver forearm guards that leave the fingers free to move. His uniform comes down nearly to his knees and has two vertical rips in the front on the left side. At the back it flares out like a swallow’s tail and is mid-calf length. His boots are almost knee high, and are the same colour as his shoulder guards. They are sectioned by two pairs of belt-like ties. The boots are steel toed and heeled. On his back is a large black case that holds an irken sniping rifle. The sections on his Pak are the same colour as his eyes; crimson.
Age: 264 (About 27 in Human Years)
Height: 175cm
Weight: 82 kgs
Story: Callous was born and raised like any regular irken smeet, albeit with slight underdevelopment in height growth. Bullied by taller (and therefore superior) classmates, Callous sought for a way to alleviate his troubles, and found the solution though drugs, dealt in the backwater slums of the empire. Eventually, Callous was doing all kinds of drugs, mostly oral, some injected. Steroids in excess, and "chips" (PAK enhancers) too. After a few years of this, Callous was buff, taller than your average irken and on his merry way to elite class. This is when he hit the lows. His drugs weren’t affecting him the way they used to, and his brain was becoming seriously messed up. When he was actually transferred into Nizerei’s elite squad, he was a complete mess. And it wasn’t going to get much easier for a while. Nizerei forced him off the drugs, bit by bit, until he was finally independent again. He kept his stamina and stature through hard training, but never regained his mental capacity- as a result, his fight-or-flight response is completely nonexistent, and his adrenal glands do not work properly. He also has a rather flat emotional range, without proper happiness, and serious low points.
After finally getting over his drug dependency, Callous continued to serve under Nizerei, unable to be promoted due to his drug record. He decided to try and set things straight by going after the druggies that had gotten him hooked in the first place, back in the slums of the Irken training planet, but things went amok, and Callous attacked and killed the wrong gang, a group of empire scientists undertaking an experiment in smeet drug abuse. He almost got demoted for it, but the empire decided to allow him to continue what he was dong under Nizerei, because they had more important things to worry about than a dumb young vigilante trying to right his previous wrongs. After the incident, Nizerei kept a close eye on him, until the empire, in haste to prepare a new Blood-Sport tournament for the entertainment of the massive found his old file and thought that they would kill two birds with one stone.
Now, Callous is preparing himself for the rigorous and infamous tournament...
(Note: Callous’s scars are simply battle ornaments, having done a lot of rough fighting in his time. His antennae were cut off by accident during a training exercise in academy during which he was too stoned to react fast enough. His mouth was torn open by one of the empire researchers/ “drug dealers” when he went in to shut them down, and the medical job wasn’t done very well (spite, perhaps) so the scars remained heavily obvious. He might use them to intimidate a younger opponent in an attempt to scare them out of fighting him. He also has numerous scars on his torso and etc. from other tough situations.)
Personality: Callous isn’t very deep in terms of emotional responses due to the permanent damage done to his brain by the hard drugs he took in his youth. When he is happy he is a little bit happy, but when he is sad, he is dismal. Callous, although thick-skinned, is easily depressed, so nowadays, the only drugs he takes are anti-depressants every 12 hours to keep him from spiralling into his “Black-Zone” as he calls it. Other than this, Callous almost never angers, and is unlikely to show fear either. He thinks slowly and speaks quietly. Callous’s happy place is when he is working with weaponry- he loves modifying standard issue irken tech, his pride and joy being the modified sniper rifle he carries with him at all times. He approaches fighting as an outsider, and tries not to get to know his opponents, preferring to get straight into the action. He can, however, be coaxed into a conversation if you can strike up his interest, perhaps with something he doesn’t know, or of course, the weapons you use. Callous will respect a good fighter and his opponent’s beliefs, but barely has any of his own. He shoots to kill, not maim or injure, and won’t draw out a person’s suffering. He has little tolerance for those that abuse drugs though, even if he is sympathetic towards them. He can be sentimental- he does have his moral standards. But his aim in the tournament is to get out alive, and if his opponent needs to be dead for him to do that, then that’s how it goes.
Strengths: Callous is very physically strong due to a combination of steroids in his early days and constant weight and fitness training as an elite. He is a brilliant marksman, a practiced and experienced sniper and all round gun expert. He could pick up almost any model of gun, alien make or not, and know how to use it; it’s specs, drawbacks and advantages. This is because all he does in his spare time is work out and work on weaponry.
Callous has pretty good battle-sense, and excellent reaction times. He is more tolerant of pain than the average irken.
Weaknesses: Callous has no working adrenal glands due to his drug abuse, therefore he has no fight-or-flight response. If hit in the head, Callous will become stunned, as the drugs also damaged the workings of his Pak-to-brain link (he was doing chips along with other drugs). He isn’t all that intelligent in regards to subjects not closely related to weapons and fighting. Callous’s antennae are hacked off most of the way down, so his hearing isn’t as good as it normally would be. Callous also suffers from the average irkens weaknesses against meat and water.
Fighting Style: Callous’s first choice will always be to scout out his opponent and off them with his rifle before they have a chance to fight back, but if spotted first he will generally confront them. At mid to close range, Callous will use his arsenal of weaponry to fight his opponent, including hovering gun-droids (he carries two of these in his PAK), smaller percussion grenades, and several sets of standard two-stick explosives. He has the ability to use these strategically, though is better at improvising and thinking on his feet. In hand-to-hand fighting, Callous will use his strength and stamina to attempt to best his opponent, throwing more punches than kicks, and fighting left-hand dominantly. His close-range style can be compared to the styles used in MMA, or Mixed Martial Arts, using elbows and knees without hesitation, and even doing the occasional throw, or sleeper hold. His fast reflexes mean that he has a solid all round defence, though he places priority on protecting his head.
Inventory (Extra): Callous carries with him a modified irken military sniping rifle with a scope, long barrel and solid energy bullets. The energy for this draws from an internal battery modified from the average irken Pak so it is almost infinite, but if this battery is broken the gun will not work.
In addition to this, Callous has two spherical gun droids that can fly/hover and are guided by remote through Callous’s Pak (or ca be set on auto); these shoot solid shell ammunition and are capable of taking most kinds of bullet; but they do have a fixed stock and will run out of their first supply after about 2-300 rounds each.
Callous also carries a stock of sixteen percussion grenades that are timer detonated, and six sets of standard two-stick explosives.
TL;DR: Callous isn’t the sharpest tool in the shed, but is strong and knows his guns. His emotions are pretty messed up after doing drugs a while. He’ll respect your beliefs but he has none of his own. Simply; to stay alive, stay outta his way.

Wow! You're going to enter BSR? I feel honoured entering the same competition with you XD Although I'll be crapping myself if I went against you.
Anywho, love your character <: Very realistic and lovable!

Best watch out for this BAMF.
Great job. He's really flawed for a 'grizzled veteran'-type, and I think it really works. The remote guns make for a unique PAK tool as well.

Indeed ;D
Thanks. I wasn't sure if it was going too far, but then, nothing can succeed like excess XD
I'd be interested to see how Aut would end up "fixing" him *rubs chin*

Well, first for somebody like Callous, a fight would have to ensue during which Auger would probably break him further in the process of subduing him... I have several ideas floating around that I haven't yet pinned down to specific fights, but the first sniper I fight is probably going to start the fight by shooting Auger in the head and mistakenly writing him out.

Awesome design, definitely get the hardened veteran of combat feel, not to mention his uniform, even for Irken Elite, is unique, and still offers the functionality as well as form and pleasing to the eye.
This character definitely found the soft-spot in my heart, not the brightest or most sophisticated individual in the universe, but most certainly functional, and lethally dangerous at that. A broken man whom triumphs still in his own small ways, trying to escape his past to have a more prosperous future. Even though he's going to have to go through hell and back via the tournament to get there, he's willing to take that chance...to live a relatively normal life once more.
You got a way with creating flawed, yet appealing characters, making them strong, but weak at the same time, able to relate to even, in turn, likable.

I don't really like simply using a basic design XD I have to make alterations- I figure the eilite uniform is just like a prison uniform, everyone makes their own personal adjustments to it.
C: I'm glad then. I wouldn't really want to do something this long-term wiht a character nobody can like or connect to ;D
Personally, I just love the idea of characters overcoming personal problems and moving on to a better future ;D
And yes, unlike Saik, Callous is simply doing this to get back to the life he had before- he'd probably take very little or none of the glory C:
Heh, well, it's things like that that make people, I think C:

He reminds me a lot of Rub, minus the drugs, at least in Bloodsport anyway, he's not in it for glory, wealth, or fame...but survival, anything to see the light of another day, and enact the revenge upon the Empire for what they did to his people, his homeworld, and most of all, his family. He's quite close to letting his revenge and anger consume him and it will be all that he lives for, so something's gotta give before it's too late.

Rub seems like a very emotionally volatile character. It will be interesting to see how his mental state changes as he progresses.

He is, very much so, and I'm trying to make him get progressively more deep seeded with his hatred, almost to the point to where it's nearly too late for him to turn back, at least lay off of it, at what point...well...that's a secret >:3

i love his outfit. LOVE IT! It is simple but has a strong impact and an interesting shilouette, especially the shoulders and arms part. The character seems interesting too. I would love to see him in your more realistic style.

Heh, thankyou, though admittedly most of my inspiration comes from the standard irken elite design.
Thankyou C: And I'm sure you will ;D
