Description
Spring has been dark here. There's been an excessive amount of rain and clouds. But there is beauty in the darkness. I have tulips growing in my backyard that are such a deep purple that they appear to be black in the correct distance and lighting. Not everything is dark, there is some pink within the picture. But the real eye catchers are those mysterious tulips.Related content

Lots of purple there. Nice framing, I like it.

I was actually thinking of you when I saw a way to frame this yesterday. I thought to myself, oh if Timothy were here he'd know just how to frame these flowers! So I gave it my best shot anyway. I need to take more pictures to get one of them looking blacker, I do have some but they didn't come out as good as I would have liked them to. Macro shots are hard, I was trying to keep steady, then I'd be so close to the flowers that I'd get them moving. Haha!

Thanks. When in doubt think "What would Timothy do?" hahaha I always find it hard to keep steady when taking macro shots because I have to get so close, I don't have a real macro lens so I have to 'flip my 50' which gives you real good close ups, but you have to get within a few inches so any movement is exaggerated.
Lighting is key to getting them to look blacker, wait til a cloudy day or maybe shoot them when they're in shadow(I actually think shade on a sunny day is your best bet, when contrast is at its highest). Maybe you could stand with your shadow covering them(or someone else). You'll get different shades of saturation at different times of day too. Shoot in different light and at different times of day til you get what you like. Also, different cameras 'see' colors differently. I read somewhere that purple/blue is a difficult color for digital cameras to reproduce accurately(green is the easiest).
I prefer the black of burnt silver sprinkled on some acetate.
Oh, I was watching planet earth last night, the episode on fresh water and I have to see "Angel Falls" now[by helicopter]. Dammit, the more I watch those shows the longer my list gets, but that's not really a bad thing.

I don't have a macro lens either [obviously because my camera isn't like that haha] I just used the macro setting. I was actually using really dark lighting yesterday, but the photos that came out lighter came out better. I can't decide whether I will take more pictures of those flowers again or not. Thanks for the shadow advice! I will use my shadow to work with the flowers if I go back out there. My camera sees colors sort of exaggerated. The colors usually come out more colorful than they are and it bugs me. But I sometimes use fade color in iphoto to help with that. That's neat that cameras have trouble with purple and blue.
Your favorite color to shoot is very specific!
Oh Angel Falls has been on my list since I was in high school! I love Angel Falls!

Hey, I got your letter today. C=
I do appreciate the little "treasure-junk" you gave me. I have a piece of Virginia, New York and Connecticut, a "fast pass" to the Tower of Terror in Disney World, a ti-dye leaf(mostly intact, but there were some pieces in the envelope) and a gold coin now! (the coin sound from sonic comes to mind)
Jupiter is a beautiful planet, but isn't it a ball of gas? I bought a rock sphere that looks a lot like Jupiter when I was at the fair in Canton(where I got my rock elephant). It's pretty neat; about 1.5-2" in diameter.
As to what it sounds like here: not much. There isn't much noise during the day, or at night for that matter. Midday is dominated with little birds' chirps and the occasional hawk cry. My parents have some wind chimes hanging on the back porch and you hear them when the wind blows, but mostly nature sounds. Little birds, the occasional dog bark; wind.
The road I live on connects to a dirt back road that is a good short-cut between two major roads. It's a little bit rough, so you usually see just pickups, but some cars go down there too, usually in the morning and evening. Not many vehicles go down there but there are a few regulars.
If you were to go down that road, you'd hear the hisss-pop of the pressurized systems on the oil well heads and the thundering clank of the big rigs' wheels as they hit the potholes on their way to collect that days oil. There is one of those typical oil well 'swing things' that makes a motorized whirr and hisses when it reaches its apex, like a giant gasp(used to scare me).
I don't know why but: Pink
.
[Bet you would never have guessed that.]
-Angel falls has been on my list nearly as long as Machu Picchu, which is what created it. I only re-remembered it when I watched that show. (is re-remember a word?)'remember again' doesn't have the same 'zing'.

Wow I completely failed on judging the amount of time it takes a letter to get from NY to TX.
I'm glad you liked the treasure-junk! I thought you might. And oh I used to love playing sonic. You know, I've been in a few gas stations that have had the sonic ring sound for their cash registers, and it is completely awesome. And also strange.
So what if Jupiter is a ball of gas? We gotta think beyond the capabilities of our life forms and just be able to walk on gas. Haha why not? That's real neat that you have a rock sphere that looks like Jupiter.
That's nice that it's "quiet" where you are. [I feel that it's never truly quiet anywhere.] Your living area sounds like it would be nice to listen to. As for down the road, cant say it sounds as appealing.
Oh, pink! I should have went with Orange. I'd have been much closer. What color did you guess that I was thinking?
I like the 'word' re-remember. I agree, it is zingy.
I think the thing that may have started my list was watching a video on the Amazon Rain Forest in class in 10th grade.
Is Madagascar on your list? That looks pretty swell also.

It probably got here several days ago, my parents hadn't checked the p.o. box in a while.
I think walking on gas would be awesome, and being able to breathe the 'air' on other planets would help our cause too. I watched "the planets" tv show last night and coincidentally that episode was centered around Jupiter, but had the other planets as well.
I like the quiet here.
Earlier, I sat on the porch and just absorbed it for a while. I also mowed the yard today, that sucks. I have to air the tires up every time and jump start it because the battery doesn't hold a charge.
The back road is actually nice, with the exception of those oil well places of course.
I was lost during that 'guess what color exercise' I had to reread it to get that. I didn't see those folds the first(or second)time I read it. I was thinking 'purple' since you posted that pic of the "black" tulips.
So much of what they show in the planet earth series are places I wish I could see. There is a cave in Mexico that has some exquisite crystalline structures that are breathtaking, but it isn't possible to ever get to see them, because the government restricts access to those caves now.
Madagascar? I haven't really thought about it, but I most likely would.
Ahhh...

I was supposed to mow the lawn yesterday, but my lawnmower is down. I have to go out and get a new battery. Sounds like you should get a new battery too. Maybe new tires. Man.
Sorry about the confusingness about the guess the color exercise. I was aware that it had the potential to make zero sense. I don't make sense a lot of the time. But making minimal sense can be a lot of fun.

I was just in a bit of a hurry to read it that I didn't get into it.
[It caught me by complete surprise that someone would hand write me a letter(what's this thing you call "pen and paper?"). I get nearly no mail, so seeing my name on a letter was quite exciting. Then I saw that is was from you, and I got this huge smile on my face.]
We have gotten new batteries often and they seem to poop out unnecessarily. What I do is put the charger on for while and then start it, every time. Yesterday I mowed on a whim. I had actually just taken a shower and was enjoying sitting outside when I got up and picked up the litter along the road. Then naturally I had to mow, then I weed ate(is that worded correctly?). I hate that weed-eater, it always needs convincing to get started and stay running. I seriously have to pull that dam cord a dozen times, switch the choke and all too.
I don't see why my dad doesn't want to take any pride in his yard, he just assumes that I'll do it.
I think my dad is just going to get the flat fixed. We are really strapped for cash right now, the rear end on his truck just needed to be replaced. It had gotten so worn down that they had to replace all of the gears. My step mom needs her transmission checked too, it is slipping.
~You're so silly.

I was hoping that would catch you by surprise! And I'm really glad you liked the letter. I enjoy letters.
So it sounds like the generator in your lawn mower is bad if new batteries can't hold a charge. I don't know what it takes to repair that, nor do I know if it's worth the cost.
I think weed ate is worded correctly although around my parts we would say weed whack. My grandpa doesn't think I can handle our weed whacker, so I just work as hard as I can getting everywhere with the mower. More than one time I have gotten it stuck in large low branches near the stump of my crab apple tree and had to rock it out.
Maybe your dad wants you to take care of the yard like my grandpa likes me to do it; he likes me to have something on this property that is my responsibility to take care of. Or maybe your dad just doesn't like to mow.
The rear end of your dad's truck needed to be replaced? You mean the semi? That must have cost a bundle.
Transmission? Oh no that's a horrible thing to go! I sure hope your step mom's transmission isn't bad.
~Hehe

A hand-written letter says much more than an email. =]
I try to get as much as I can with the mower too, I'm pretty good at driving it now. I've only gotten mine stuck in the ditch when it hasn't had time to dry. I haven't given it a full charge in a while so I don't know if it still can't hold a charge. I need to put the charger on it over night. I think my dad's reason is part me not having a job and part him being lazy.
"Weed-whack" haha(although I do know some people who say that), that's like "crik"(creek) or "pee-can-pie". Yankees. My dad was born in Indiana, but he's lived here longer, and he still does those. The one I hate the most is "motor-sickle".[I was unsure if I should keep this paragraph in here, but I figure you'd find the humor in it, and not take offense.]
It was his '06 Ford F-350 that needed a new rear end. He has more than a quarter million on those gears and does a lot of hauling, so... naturally. My step mom's expedition's transmission slips when accelerating, like if you push the clutch-loss of thrust. I think it has to do with the way she drives, heavy on the brake and gas. Well, that and it hasn't had regular maintenance since she got it. Her brother has a few cars(my rich gay uncle)that she can borrow should her trans poop out.

Haha motorsickle that one is funny. The one I hate most is what my grandparents and mother say, "warsher." I need to "Warsh" my clothes. Where the hell are they getting that R from? Who does that? I never picked that up from them. Do you guys say pop or soda there? When I lived in Florida for a little while I had a small fiasco involving working at Kmart and trying to ask a customer about her "pop" and her not understanding what the hell I was talking about. My brother thinks that Pop is more correct because Soda is the describing adjective. Haha.

O wow, I guess that one is quite resilient, it made it all the way down here. My parents say "worsh" too(we went with o)'worsher, "w-oor-sh-rr". I hate it. "Worsh your clothes this week, cause I need the worsher this weekend."
Some say 'soda', some 'pop', others go one extra and say 'soda pop'. A lot say 'coke' though. I say coke, even if it isn't "Coke", or I go with the brand, like dr. pepper or mt. dew.
Wouldn't 'pop' be the adjective?
