Description
This artwork makes part of a series of drawings for Mega Man X: Unit 49 's Season 2 I'm publishing this week."The Mistwalker" is the name given to a contemporary legend of a Reploid ghost that was originally made to deal with intoxicated ventilation systems, regardless of the accessibility of the place. For that, his developers wanted to synthesize a special fluid material that could be shaped with electromagnetic stimuli from its core. In this way, the fluid body could leave the metal armor and move through pipes if necessary. After a long time of research, they succeeded and created the exotic being. One of the first emergencies he was sent to solve was an accident in a nuclear plant. To prevent the radioactive material from contaminating the entire site, Mistwalker used his power to navigate through very tight spaces, until he found the operation machines that could halt the leaking. What nobody told him was that to seal the place, he would also need to trap himself there forever. Years after, the surroundings started to get high readings of radioactivity and the people needed to evacuate, while the Reploids working there stayed to progressively shut down the facility. Some theorize that the Mistwalker managed to escape the place at the cost of releasing the radioactivity once again, and others have seen a form resembling him wandering through these lands... that would explain how the Reploid workers were mysteriously killed.

why didn't he just uploaded his mind to a server and then got someone else to download it to a new body outside?

The reactor core certainly did not have the necessary apparatus to make such transmission, so it wasn't that easy. All he could do was ask for help, but he could not be helped.

Assuming the nuclear accident was related to an explosion, for his misfortune, such apparatus could have been damaged. Nevertheless, intense radiation can damage machines and cause electromagnetic interference, so that's another problem to be considered. The amount of radiation that Mistwalker have been exposed to all that time may also have damaged his brain and maybe made him go insane.

Still why would you place any kind of consciousness in a robot that is bound to be disposed after its operation anyways?

He was not supposed to be disposed so easily, but that specific mission required him to be. Anyway, that's a good questioning. It's easy to think it's advantageous to have smarter robots and some people may not even care that Reploids can have feelings and suffer for accomplish such tasks... that's how some Mavericks are born.
