This has bought something to my mind. There are NO couples on Avatar that are from different nations. Aside from Aang and Katara of course. But, that doesn't count for obvious reasons. Then there's Sokka and Suki. But they wouldn't have even met if it wasn't for the war at hand.
Makes you wonder if they were trying to make a statement about society. How we are all connected yet choose to segregate ourselves out of sheer free will. Or the impact of war on society.

haha, I've begun not to take any of the shippings on Avatar way too seriously, if I think the writing is bad on certain episodes
But yes! What an interesting outlook on that.
And it reminds me of how sad it is that they're casting the new Last Airbender in the way they are instead of casting actors of color as the main characters, and/or switching things around just for the sake of making it more marketable. It's horrid.
