One month since Last Guardian finally came out, and I've finished off the sketch I did to celebrate the release.

I have to say the game is not quite as good as I was hoping for - but on the other hand it means that ICO remains my best gaming experience ever.

(Also: disappointed that we don't know the boy's name, and I will have to keep calling him Kid. Or make something up... well I have made something up but I don't know whether it's worse to give him the wrong name than to just not use one.)

Anyway.

So much detailed patterning to keep track of here... except for Yorda, who makes up for it by the overall weirdness of her dress. (You can get away with all that in a sketch, but not in a finished picture!)

Also, considering he's the entire point of the picture, I feel like Kid is getting lost in the middle of all that patterning.... I tried putting more shadow behind him but seeing as his clothes have the same shades of grey in them, it doesn't really help.

It's annoying that Ico and Kid have the same overall colour scheme. I had to pick different oranges for their shirts just so they wouldn't match as much.

And talking of colour selection - I bought a 120 set of Faber-Castell pencils and I'm a bit disappointed with the lack of some colours I would consider basic. No lavender, no pale tan (had to get the Derwents out to colour Wander's shirt)... and only one useful 'skin tone' pencil. I tried to make Yorda a bit paler than the others but I don't think it worked. The ochre colours I used on Ico and Kid are quite good though.

Also my scanner didn't handle the shading well at all, so I had to take a photo - that's why the colour is a bit variable, but it's still much better than the scanned version. It looked very washed-out.
