No I don't think it's the reason... cause it is just the way of life.

I think dreams become nightmares because nothing is like it seems; and humanity is controlled by fear and greed.
That's why dreams turn into nightmares...

I think you're also right. 

Our behaviors are shaped by wanting to avoid experiences we are afraid of, and wanting to gain access to things that we lust for. Avoiding the fear and capturing the lust aren't satisfying but only for a moment. 

Is there such a thing as a lasting satisfaction? A contentment of sorts?

Perhaps there is a lasting satisfaction; hidden deep inside, at the bottom of the sea...
If you have very much luck you'll also find a person to share it with you.

But it's a long way down... and both need to find this kind of "peace".
Though it's nearly impossible.
There's no real contentment of sorts.

I like to believe... when you're leaving your body, your earthly cage of flesh and bones, than you are not separated anymore, but everything itself.
This will be just purest satisfaction and passion.

We are all on the run and in search for something beautiful.
Life will teach us, if we listen to our heart.
And not caring all those materialized values and waste, but become conscious.
