Description This is my original design scratchbuilt/kitbashed 24 inch dropship model I created from sheet plastic, ping-pong balls, scrap parts for detail, a clock cover, etc.

This model is built in 2 pieces that can separate. This shot is of the command module from the top.

Note that this isn't a kit I bought in the store and put together-I made this. If you'd like to read about the technique on how to scratchbuild/kitbash, I wrote a tutorial (part 1) that can be found here:

This makes me think of Star Wars in a way, how the old movie's ships were built with such a low budget that the Star Destroyers were made with scrap and model airplane parts, and i think a disposable razor or two is visible somewhere. This is very similar, how you were able to find such an interesting and unique design out of ordinary objects. I approve.

Well, words like "insane" are what you deserve for scratchbuilding things like these. People who don't, get impressed.
That means "wow."
Hm, scratchbuilding sounds like something I'd like to try out, but I suppose it takes awful lot of fine work and tools to get it look fine.

Thanks for the comment. Appreciate it.

Scratchbuilding/kitbashing doesn't really take a lot of tools to be honest: a straightedge or ruler, a hobby knife such as x-acto, a compass for cutting out circles, lots of sandpaper and filler and lots of styrene plastic and shapes. Different kinds of glue is a must. You combine many types of plastic, wood, etc., and I use styrene cement, epoxy, and others.

Did you check out my modeling tutorial?

Take care.

Yes, I did take a look on that.
I might get energized some day and take myself some space and time to get something started.
I'm usually not good in doing small detail, and that seems to make the difference in those models. Any advice on that?
And hey, thanks.

I'm actually working on part 2 of the tutorial (got sidetracked for a few months).

For small detail, it's just like looking at a blank canvas, piece of paper, or thru the lens of a camera. You look at empty planes and think "If I put some large doohickey here, I'll need to balance it with several smaller doohickeys over there" or somethiing to that effect. It's all about composition, as opposed to random placement of bits.

Thanks again.
