I'm sorry, I just... don't get Appledash. Applejack seems kind of.. conservative to me. I can see them as friendly rivals/best friends, but I don't get why so many people ship them. Generally I'm open-minded about MLP ships and don't really care about the genders involved, but homo Applejack or Rarity doesn't sit well with me. :S I'm very picky about Rainbow Dash, too. I hate how everyone just labels her a lesbian. I paired her with one of the pegasus jocks (Billy, I think?) until I watched the best night ever, and I kinda thought the idea of her and Spitfire COULD work.. well, mostly because RD and SF are my favorite characters XD
I guess when you live in a society of, like, 80-90% females, you have limited options LOL

Yeah, I guess I could see Applejack as a more conservative type.
However, remember that the entire pony culture seem to have the "tolerance" thing taught to them almost from before they are born. I honestly don't think they would care which genders are involved.
And, if the mare/stallion ratio indeed is 12/1, then I honestly don't think anyone, even the most conservative mare out there, would care. (I personally believe the ratio is closer to 1/1 though; the stallions are just rarely shown in the show).
Though, her just not chosing to be lesbian (or bi); I've seen a few of that, and it works quite well. Just don't make her the "Angry redneck homo-hating girl", and I don't think you'll have any problems.
Also, for a hetero pairing with both Applejack and RD; try Applejack and Soarin, or RD and Soarin. Both could work quite well

It has nothing to do with her accent. She could have a French accent for all I care :l
