Description
Feels like a week has passed since you made a deal with Slenderman, you’re allowed to leave, but every time you did if felt like you were being watched. Jeff and Ben would leave at days at a time, then come back exhausted, Jeff would always come back with a wider grin on his face then before. One morning, you asked for the paper from Jack, but he refused and quickly left the room with no explanation. You couldn't help the feeling that something bad is happening, that people are getting hurt and that the blood is on your hands. You sometimes caught Jeff covered in new blood stains, and it pained you even more. Most of the time you held up into your room, staring at the dull old walls that are peeling away. If you weren’t there, you would go to the river to think or simple get away from the group of creeps. Often, you would worry whether they lied and killed your friend, but the mark is proof that they’re alive. Splendor explains to you that if your friend dies by anyone one of their hands that the seal with come off. Splendor is the only you feel like you could fully trust.
You feel a little more than annoyed today by everyone, so you left the house again and went back to the river spot. The sounds of the river are always so calming, and the wind feels great on your face. You reach the river, the familiar, yet breathe taking sight greeting you. You glance around to the oddly growing flowers and grass, like if the area around the river is uninfected by Slender’s woods; all of it so inviting. Out of the corner of your eye, you spot something off. You furrow your brows, stepping over to the area. Blood, “Jeff must of came here to clean…….” You frown, and do an about-face, walking away from the sight.
Curious about whether there is more around the river, you continue to wonder upstream for a long while. All along the river bed, had this same beautiful scenery; it’s strange to see, but you figure it’s just because the water helps its surroundings. The water seems to glow in light, the sounds of the flowing river like an enchanting song. You could spend days near the river, its way better than the house of killers. You never feel safe, like any moment you’ll feel the cold pain of a sharp blade stab into your flesh; made it hard to sleep.
Not paying attention much, you hadn’t noticed how much time has passed until the sun started to set. "Shoot, how long have I been exploring? I'm pretty sure it's going to be too dark to make it back… without getting lost that is, but the fastest way is if I leave the riverside, I won’t take that chance." you tell yourself, turning back down river. How could you of let so much time pass without realizing? It didn’t make sense, you could have sworn that you’ve only been walking for an hour, or two.
Walking downstream now, you begin to feel a bit tired from the continuous walking, you see a tree that looks a bit cozy to rest up a bit on. You rest your back against it, the rough texture digging in you. Your eyes look up at the tall almost grey like trees that towered above you, the air slowly become colder letting you know it's time to keep going. "I should of paid attention to the time, or even how far I went, but at least I'm not lost or anything right?" you say out loud with a shrug.
The sky went from its orange-red sunset to a dark blue until finally it was just dark, the woods look like their normal creepy atmosphere. The wind starts to blow a bit rougher, the trees making a creaking sounds as they move with the wind. You could almost swear you heard someone say your name, but you couldn't see anyone around. The river seems to have morph from a calm river to a wilder and louder one, it even begin to become more rapid by the second. "I better stay away from the river just in case. If I fall in I’ll drow-" you say, but in the mist of it being dark you didn't see the loose rocks in front of you, causing you to lose balance; but luckily only for a second. You catch yourself before falling into the river beside you, you exhale from shock, doubling down, grabbing your knees to calm yourself.
You exhale once more, and gain footing again. "That was close… way to jinx myself!" you sigh, the forest, it seems, isn't in your favor. It’s like it’s trying to force you into the river, another gust of wind blows roughly, almost lifting you off your feet. You feel like some bag caught in its grasp, the powerful wind nearly throwing you. The wind causes dirt to get into your eyes, blinding you momentarily. You step back on impulse at the sudden attack, before you realize, you feel your left foot start to slip under the loose dirt.
You gasp in shock, trying to reach for anything to stop your fall. You manage to grab a rough branch, and for a second you gain balance. However, you feel something seemingly tug your waist roughly, the branch in your grasp cutting your hand up, the force causes you to loose air; like if being punched in the gut. With that a rush of ice cold water engulfs you, the river pulling you down into it depths.
You're an excellent swimmer, but the water is too cold and too strong for you alone to get out. Despite this, you try your hardest, all in vain. You could swear, you hear someone in the water laughing at you struggling.
You finally slam into some rocks roughly, a sharp pain rushing throughout your side. You’re able to pull your head above the water to breath, and you hold on tight to the rock. The force of the river making it hard to breathe, though how unearthly cold the water is didn’t help either. You struggle against the rock that you’re pinned to.
"H-h-elp!" your voice calls out meekly, and not even close to being loud enough for anyone to hear. The current forcefully rips you away from somewhat safety of the rock, and you’re once again being tossed around by the river. The river pulls you down once more into its cold depths, you hold your breath as long as you can.
Your lungs start to hurt begging for air, finally you couldn't hold your breath any longer; the air escapes your lips as you claw desperately for the surface. Your eyes become heavy, and you couldn't fight the force of the river, your vision fading. The river finally taking its prey.
You hear something, a muffling sounds of something. This sound follows with a splash, that’s when you feel something wrap around your waist. Its pulls you up to the surface, you feel yourself slipping; but a pain squeeze reassures your safety.
You feel yourself being pulled out of the water, the air a welcoming feeling. You hear more muffling noises, but are too out of it to register what’s going on. A hand slams your back, cough up water and gasp for air as the water leaving your lungs. You open your eyes and are greeted by Hoodie and Toby hovering over you, and Masky soaking wet next to you. Masky stands, pulling off the rope from his waist.
"Have you gone insane!?" Hoodie yells, then inhales and calms down.
"It's… it's not like I wanted to go into the river." you manage to get out, shivering from the cold. Masky steps closer to you and offers his hand. You go to reach and you feel a sharp pain come from your side, quickly retracting your hand to cover the pain, hopping that’ll make it go away. "Let me see…" Toby says, and reaches for your shirt. You don’t fight it, but wince as the shirt is slightly lifted, but clings to your wet body, making the pain worsen.
He furrows his brows, checking your side. "Looks bruised, but it's hard to tell." Toby says, standing to his feet. He then moves over to Hoodie and grabs his Jacket and tries to pull it off of him. "What the hell?! Stop that!" Hoodie says, slapping Toby's hands away. "____ can't wear the soaked clothes, it will put unnecessary weight on the ribs." He explains, and jabs Hoodie.
"Then you give up your clothes!" Hoodie screams, and crosses his arms. "They’re way to heavy, stop being a baby and give it here." Toby says with a snort, poking Hoodie. "Fine! But I can take it off myself!" He says and begins to remove his hoodie. His short, light brown hair ruffling out as he takes off the hoodie, He promptly puts on his black mask.
"Here" Hoodie says, handing over his jacket, his tone sounding a bit shy, as he looks away, shoving the hoodie at you. "Can you three look away?" you say filling a bit flushed, getting ready to remove your soaked shirt. "Eh? Why so shy?" Toby teases, making Masky smack the back of his head.
You remove your wet top(s), and replace it with the dry, warm hoodie that’s a bit too big for you. "Ok, you can turn back now." you say, lightly feeling pain from your ribs. "What were you thinking staying out by the river at night?!" Toby says with a bit of frustration, stretching out. "I was just taking a walk is all. The river went from something calm to deadly within minutes…. and… It's not like I was trying to go into the river. I just fell in." You explain, holding your ribs.
“You moron! This is Slender's forest, nothing here is always calm and safe! At night the river turns extremely deadly, it's another form of traps here in the woods, there's tons out here! DO you ever think!?" Hoodie cuts in, his voice was a bit scared, but angry. "You're lucky, you have that mark on you, or we would have never found you! DO you hav-" He continues, looking back to you, then stops his rant noticing the look on your face as you hold back your feelings of pain. Hoodie sighs, and turns back away from you "Sorry, you just scared me..." he whispers, barely audible. The four of you are pretty silent on the way back, here and there, one of them would look back to make sure you are ok. The trees echo throughout the darkness of this unnerving forest.
