Description Mort Drucker - My earliest comic book influence. I regularly picked up MAD magazine for years before I picked up my very first "super hero" comic book, and the main reason for buying MAD was for Drucker's inspired movie parodies! To this day, whenever I have to draw a likeness, it's all Mort! I also still regularly use many of his deceptively loose rendering cyphers. Books to look for: Mort Drucker's MAD Show-Stoppers, Familiar Faces: The Art of Mort Drucker, & MAD About the Movies.

Arthur Adams - Still my most dominant and noticeable influence! Ever since I laid my eyes on X-MEN Annual #12, I've been hooked! Most noticeable still in my style is his dynamics, body positioning, facial expressions and understructure. Books to look for: Arthur Adams: X-MEN LEGENDS 3 & Longshot.

Jim Lee - Having been fortunate enough to have mentored under Jim Lee first hand, you can still see a very obvious influence in my work to this day. Most notably, in my storytelling and rendering of figures and backgrounds, and the kinetic speed at which the artwork appears to be produced. Favorite Jim Lee books: X-MEN Visionaries: Jim Lee, X-Tinction Agenda, & BATMAN: HUSH.

DISNEY - Originally thinking for many years that I would be an animator before I ever considered the idea of being a comic book artist, the classic and modern age animated features of Walt Disney Studios remains a dominant influence on my approach to art! Most prominently, the work of:

Marc Davis - Marc's designs of both the Princess and Maleficent from "Sleeping Beauty" remain two of my all time favorites! Not to mention his design and animation of Tinkerbell! Marc's artwork came to define the BEST in Disney females, and probably still hasn't been topped to this day!

Fred (Freddy) Moore - You most likely wouldn't have had a Marc Davis girl if Fred Moore hadn't defined his vision of the "Freddy Moore Girl" first! His signature "girly" art and animation can be seen in the shorts "All the Cats Join In" in Make Mine Music, "Casey Bats Again", The "centaurettes" in Fantasia, and my personal favorites, the mermaids in Perter Pan!

Milt Kahl - His graphic, angular and often lanky character designs lend themselves to the aesthetics of my figures very well. An older influence that I've only recently come to revisit and reincorporate. Some of my favorites: Roger and Anita from 101 Dalmatians, Shere Khan and King Louie in The Jungle Book, and his work in The Aristocats and The Sword in the Stone. Any doubters should simply google "Milt Kahl" and "Hands" and be WOWED by the jpeg compilations that pop up!

Great Disney related books: The Illusion of Life, DRAWN to LIFE Vol 1 & 2, and Walt Disney's Nine old Men. And if you're REALLY lucky!!... Les HΓ©roΓ―nes Disney.

Phew! ... to be continued...

Glad to see you on here again good sir. Great influences as well, especially Arthur Adams and Jim Lee. For Adams, I'd add the New Mutants Asgard storyline to that list too, one of the coolest stories Adams drew. Anything Godzilla he touches is gold too.

Mr. Lee's X-men run is still my favorite work he's done, and hooked me with the X-men 275 issue. That gate-fold cover (which at the time wasn't something everyone did) still stands to me as one of the best pieces he's ever done. Anything he does, even if its just the cover, I buy. Cant help it, its a sickness.

Maleficent = Best Disney Villain Ever. A lot of that can be attributed to her look, sinister but not ugly. She IS the poisoned apple.

Heh, sorry for the glad handing, but you could almost take your name off of this and slap mine on as far as influences and favorites. Good stuff sir, keep it coming.

Dude! Totally awesome influences for an awesome artist.

I can so see some of those influences in your work, and now that you mention it, I can certainly see the Shirow and Hughes in there

Wow! It's so wild to see you as an influence in *tons* of people's maps (including my own) and then see that you yourself have influences. Somehow I never thought about you having influences...like you're just some awesome, magical drawing man. I guess that's kinda silly...

I love it when the Drucker in you comes out. Particularly in that Buffy piece from a while ago. I never realized how much he influenced me as a kid. Clearly he had a profound effect on you. Always a fan of what you've done and how unique your style has become. I always see the influences but it's always a beautiful blend that has your stamp on it.... I'll stop gushing now.

Thanks Dan! Funny how much I tried to squash his influence down early on, like Daffy stomping that genie back into the lamp! Thought my "spandex crowd" might reject it! Lol! But just like that cartoon though, the Drucker influence came back with a vengeance!!

I'm just now embracing all my early influences and having the most fun since I've been drawing comic books. It's very evident how much you revere certain artists and it's a treat to see glimpses of their influence filter through from time to time. I really enjoy seeing you infuse non traditional comic book style illustration techniques into your work. Indulge, Jeff! I can't wait to see more! Thanks for posting here.

Hmmm yes i got all this from your work pretty much, and i love that about your stuff too....you can switch from being cartoony-ish to more realism while maintaining your overall style and flow.

thanks for sharing

wow! i can see you a Disney fan fan
but Chuck Jones? i didn't imagine him being one of your Influences, maybe Tex Avery and his red hot riding hood...

you should have been an animator, i love your comics, but what great cartoon characters you could have produced... it is a great lose to the world of animation
