Description Its that feeling. the one that sits deep in the recesses of your mind. no matter how pretty the world sees your outer packaging for...your inside screams something more.

I'll critique yours if you critique mine ! lol Don't you think it's wierd to say thanks for someone picking a fav?

i often don't have time to say thank you individually for favs. but i feel its very important to say thank you to the people that actually take the time to comment...it obviously meant enough to you to take the time to say something, so i'll take the time as well. and it means even more to me that you fav'd it for whatever reason that you did. so no...in this case, not weird at all. i'm honored that you like it.
OH dear. yes...i don't much critique, but i'll be heading over to your gallery to check things out.

Critique numero uno (both will have to be in comment form since the pieces I picked out don't have the critique option).

First things first: love the idea. Show-time, steampunk, cabaret and the macabre -- so many things I love in the same place.

There are, however, a few things that kind of bug me. First of all, the swirls. Since the focus of the piece is the face and the corresponding skull, I think it's a real shame that the face is partly obscured by these swirls. They serve no real purpose and they distract. If they were just in the background, it would work much better, because it would be part of the deco and would fit into the whole 'dilapidated cabaret' feel, but as it is... meh. The ones in the top right that intrude onto the reflection's hat are almost as in the way. Just rubbing out the bit that overlaps would cure that problem though.

The skull itself also doesn't quite sit right. I appreciate that it must have been difficult to work with an angle like that, but the angle still doesn't quite work, and the skull looks rather simian. The jaw is very protruding, and this is made more obvious by the fact that its shape does not fit the appearance of the model.

Finally, I think it's a shame the lightest part of the picture should be between the human face and the mirror. The lighting of the reflection is perfect, but the real girl could have done with more light on her, because at the moment she's more of a dark, uninteresting shape in the foreground than a character that draws the viewer's gaze.

Hope that doesn't sound unduly harsh, because this is a truly impressive piece!

well, being an artist, i'm sure you can understand that sometimes critiques aren't exactly what you hoped for. and no, its not unduly harsh, as i know there is alot that could have been different about this piece. (but i also didn't enable the critique option because i wasn't quite sure i wanted a critique on it ooh poor sensitive artists) i will take some of your advice into consideration as i work on it some more to please myself in areas i wasn't quite happy with.

the skull..yes..well, honestly, there aren't ALOT of CC skulls out there. so, its hard to transform a skull to "fit" a face perfectly. so, i'm sure i could work on that a bit more.
and the original source of the girl didn't allow alot when it comes to lighting. i did lighten it, but...yeah. alot more could have been done.

thanks for taking the time to critique my work.

I should have said in my original critique, kudos for finding a skull at anything approaching the correct angle at all. The ones I've seen tend to be just fairly standard, suitable for waving about or putting on tables next to stacks of books and candles, rather than for tilting arrogantly at one's reflection. So yeah, I can see that adjusting it would be a major challenge ^^

No worries I enjoy really looking at people's pieces, as much for my own benefit as theirs. I hope you found it somewhat useful. Like I said, I really love the idea here, and the reason I chose to critique this one rather than the voodoo priestess, for instance, is that I couldn't think of anything constructive to say about it because it was too good

I'm back So this is amazing, I love that you're doing a series of these. And I especially love the concept behind this one, the skull in the reflection is such a great idea And I noticed after looking at it for a minute the swirly designs that run through it and that's a really interesting touch. It's great.....as always

this one really was my favorite concept. (next to Bangin my head..it really was...perfection)...
this one kinda tells more about the "me" in it. because no matter what..i'm always the critic looking in the mirror with something entirely different than what other people see looking back at me.
and those swirly designs!! yeah, i liked the feminine touch it added. kinda softened the scene.

Great concept and beautiful work. If I ain't mistaken I think I even see a trachea. Sweet! A little bird told me you might make this a series. If so it would really make my decade.
