Pretty sharp with the 2x extender. I usually limit myself to the 1.4 if I have to try for more reach. Of course I don't have the 300mm lens to start with, which would be a fantastic help...

Thank you
I think that the Canon 300 lends itβs self to the use of the 2X Extender better that some lenses.

I just picked up the new 200mm (more for indoor sports then outdoor critters) and I'll try the 1.4 and 2x on that and see how it looks.

Much of the credit must go to the bird who let me get close enough to get the shot.

Breathtaking!
Those talons are prickling my arm and nearly drawing the most graceful line of blood... Heavens, I'd not feel a thing were it to light there.
Whoa... I forgot, I'm a bunny! You get summa these real quick and I'm gone *poof*

I really love the overall theme of rich russets and oranges contrasted with blues in a lot of the shots in your gallery!

Thank you
This picture is an example of an image that required that equipment as is often that case with birds but it doesnβt get much better than your Papaya Breakfast [link] I am at this moment exploring your lovely gallery.

This is absolutely stunning, the fact that you shot this at 600mm alone is amazing.

Thank you.
Iβm very pleased with the performance of the EF 300mm 1:2.8 L IS USM in combination with the Canon Extender 2x II. I have noticed that the camera has to be very stable to get the best out of it.

I bet use of a tripod or a mono pod would definitely be needed.

Yes that's best but in that case I didn't want to get out of my car and scare him so I stablized the lens on the window. I've seen guys use bean bags effectively too.

While I wouldnβt say that I am an official birder I do have a certain fascination for our feathered friends. Stay tuned I will be taking many more bird pictures.
