Now this is something I'm SUPER pumped about. Star Wars was such an inspiration to me as a kid and I remember thinking time and time again "I wish I could do Star Wars art!". Well, whaddaya know. I get to do Star Wars art! Fantasy Flight Games is releasing their new Star Wars living card game soon and a couple of my cards were spoiled at the previews at GenCon. The first card I did for the game was none other than Darth Vader. I'm really humbled that my art director felt comfortable enough giving me the task to create art for the most badass sci-fi villain of all time. Rarely do we get to see Vader dealing with rebel scum in such a direct way, so I'm sure you can imagine how giddy I was when I got the initial prompt.Image Β©Lucasfilm, LTD and Fantasy Flight Games

I almost started cheering when the scene in Rogue One started and Vader started rolling up rebels as if they were a wet carpet. Vader didn't get a lot of screen time, but when he was there, it counted. This great painting could have been a pre-production image, easily.

Thank you! Yeah, I actually felt the tears welling up during that scene. Not least of which because everyone had just *SPOILER* died. But also because I never thought we'd actually get to see a silver screen Vader be so completely terrifying. Aside from his pun at the end of his conversation with Krennic. That made me face palm lol.

Don't worry. I've seen the movie and enjoyed it even more the The Force Awakens. Seeing Vader being so awesomely destructive was great. And I've got to admit I like Vader's dark humor zingers.

Haha it didn't bother me as much seeing it the second time. I think what actually kind of annoys me is how it seems like they never want to do the Force choke without the squeezy hand gesture. One of my favorite Vader moments is in Empire when he's just sitting in his chair giving commands to admiral piet, and simultaneously choking the live out of the officer whom piet is replacing. No hand gestures, but we completely understand what's happening and it makes Vader seem all the more powerful. But that's just me haha. Rant over.

I know what you mean. Have youΒ read the Marvel comic series Darth Vader? Won't spoil it if you haven't, but there's an incredible scene when he almost destroys a room, even cracking a star destroyer window, when he goes into a rage. But he doesn't move a muscle.
But whenΒ Vader make the strangle gesture after Administrator Kerrick (or however you spell it) mouthed off, I took it as a sign of contempt; but I've got to agree that no gesture at all makes Vader seem all the more powerful.

I really love this piece, it's one of the best pieces of Vader art I've seen. I'm so glad that this appeared to have subsequently gotten the nod from Rogue One! The resemblance is uncanny, so it seems extremely likely. Great work!

Thank you! I just painted what I would have loved to see in a star wars movie. Whether or not Lucasfilm creatives ever saw this (I mean they do own it after all), it's at least awesome to know that someone there agrees with me haha.
