Coat color: Off-white.

Hair and Tail: Both made out of film celluloid. Her mane shows pictures of her past memories (for the sake of practicality, anyone can draw her mane with a solid color).

Place of residence: The Lumière Theater, in Ponyville.

Parents: Porter Slate (deceased) and Moviola Slate (deceased).

Closest relatives: Cotton Bucket (cousin).

Likes: Sci-fi movies, Aliens, organize and look after her movie archive, hang out with her cousin, reading a book at night in bed with a night-light on, marshmallows, plushies, and making ponies happy with her movies.

Dislikes: Fire and heat, when people send her too many horror movies, ponies giving her weird looks at her mane, ponies giving her weird looks at her mane and then complimenting her for it, and being the center of attention.

Bio:

Movie Slate was born in Canterlot, where she was raised by her two parents in a loving, good and rather humble environment. Her father, Porter Slate, developed a new method of editing movies, and along with his wife, Moviola Slate, they revolutionized the film industry in Equestria. He was the editor for the well renowned educational film “Moving the water to Cloudsdale”. Their job never interfered with giving Movie Slate a good childhood, and all the love and care two parents can put on a little filly.

Unfortunately things didn’t turn out so well for them. Porter Slate was involved in an incident at the Canterlot Film Archives, with half of the movies stored destroyed in a fire. It was quite the messy scandal, and resulted in him getting fired. Without his income the family was forced to sell their house and move to Ponyville, where Movie Slate found it difficult to make new friends due to the new environment and feeling rather embarrassed of her mane.

Porter and Moviola purchased a theatre in the small town (one of the few that are in Ponyville) and spent the rest of their lives showing old movies, news reels, and looking after their beloved filly. They lived happily until they both died of old age, and passed their theatre onto Movie Slate.

Movie Slate, overwhelmed by the loss of her parents and having to look after an entire theatre on her own, asked her cousin Cotton Bucket for help. Nowadays they both live in the theatre, with Cotton Bucket helping both on the accounting and the concession stand, and Movie Slate taking care of everything else.

Movie Slate is a rather simple mare that enjoys the simple things in life. She’s shy and reclusive, and is self conscious of her celluloid hair. The nature of her hair has always been a mystery, even to herself. It doesn’t store her memories, it grows naturally, and looking back into her family tree she couldn’t find any other relative with a similar mane or tail. She was born like that, and has been trying to figure out the mysteries of her mane for quite some time already. It doesn't make her life harder, but it causes her to blush and burn with embarrassment when complimented on it (or when an inappropriate image appears in it).

Out of the Mane Six, Movie Slate is only friends with Pinkie Pie (if only because Pinkie Pie is friends with every pony in Ponyville) though they rarely hang out. She’s also grateful that Pinkie gives her a discount on pastries for her concession stand since she buys so many from Sugarcube Corner. Many ponies have visited her theatre booth, though few have been interested enough to repeat the experience. Movie is not the type to go out for partying, preferring her movies and her theatre, as well as giving ponies a good time with the movies that people donate to her through her ask blog.

She has a few movies she absolutely loves, but when it comes to films she’s a bit snobby, and her standards can be unfairly high sometimes. She’s a bit sick of horror movies, since that’s the genre sent the most to her ask blog. However, her curiosity gets the best of her and she plays them in her theatre anyway. Regardless of what she thinks of some of these films, she still plays all of them. Just because she doesn’t like something doesn’t mean nobody else should like it either.

As long as Movie can keep her theatre open, and people keep sending her new movies, she will continue making other ponies happy as she does her best to live her life without drawing too much attention to herself (though she fails miserably on that quite often).

Canon and Continuity.

For the sake of practicality, Movie Slate’s blog clashes with every single canon in the MLP universe. That means it’s a mix of the canon of the comics, the canon of the show, the canon of the movies, the canon of the Tumblr pony-verse, the canon from the fan parody Friendship is Witchcraft, and its own canon. It’s all for the sake of flexibility, if I have an idea I want to explore I don’t want it to be shut down because it doesn’t fit with the canon.

There is also no on-going storyline that requires to read back on fifty pages worth of content, so you can just pick up a random update and enjoy it.
