Description 3DS Max.

A model of the Intention Craft, from The Amber Spyglass (The third book in Philip Pullman's His Dark Materials trilogy).
The description in the book isn't that easy to interpret, but I think it may look something like this.

A little bit too symmetrical maybe...still awesome though!

excellent interpretation .. the only thing I might add is a little more room as several of them fitted inside it I think..and it was ' a mass of cylinders, pistons, coiled cables, switchgear and valves and gauges ..so maybe more cluttered rather than this most stylish piece

I probably did deviate from the description a bit with this one, and it could do with more greebles. I actually had Lord Asriel's mark II version in mind though, so it should look a little more slick than the one that Mrs.Coulter steals.

Very similar to my imagination, except I was thinking more of War of the Worlds, curvier, less like a helicopter with legs.

Damn good interpretation.
Most important- you made it look cool!

As a person who knows nothing about machines, I found the intention craft extremely difficult to interpret. This is really helpful in filling the blanks in my visualization of the story.

Wow, I visioned like that, when I re-read the book. Wow, now I want to see that on the third movie . I'd be dissapointed if they create something far different.

Looks cool! And fun to drive! But aside from that, should this be in the "Terrestrial" category?

This is by far the best intention craft design I have seen ... I couldn't seem to get my head around what it looked like in the book, and you have shown it perfectly!

Amazing job!

ps--- 8 months to go till the movie!!

I don't really remember this, but I haven't read the book in a while I guess. Does this mean I'm ready for another round of reading?

Great picture, it looks amazing!

Great work! Not exactly how I imagined it...it looks a bit too bulky to me. I like that you were willing to put the time into it though ('cus it looks like it took quite a bit)

Well done

pretty damn cool. i pictured it similarly, but the book didn't really give much to work with so awesome job!

splashley10 [2006-08-17 16:59:26 +0000 UTC]

Nice model, but i always thought of it as a more crude looking device. more cogs, pistons and fatter legs almost like something da vinci came up with.

serious piece of military hardware though

Heh, pretty detailed for something that "may look something like this." I like the model, very clean and the super skinny legs make me feel like they're made of a super strong material.
