The words are mine. The drawing is not mine, but when i saw it...I fell in love with it. It's such a bad-ass picture of Optimus. It looked like Optimus was flipping someone off. And, really, more than Megatron, who needs to be flipped off by Optimus Prime? You guessed it. Michael "I'm Ruining Transformers" Bay. Seriously. Fuck you, Michael Bay. FLAMES? on OPTIMUS PRIME?! If he wanted shitty-looking flams on him, he'd change his name to Optimus McGay-ass and hang out around Bay Manor.I'm sorry, Bay's Optimus looks like shit. Megatron looks even worse...assuming such a thing is possible.
And I don't want to hear any, "But, James...sometimes it's good to refresh the image of...blah blah blah". Whatever. That's fucking bullshit. (90% of the people who would go see this movie are like me: They want to see Generation 1 Transformers (Not "Beast Wars", not "Transformers: Armada") duking it out on the big screen. INSTEAD, we're going to get shitty-designed techno-organic-looking ass-postules running around the screen.
Rally 'round Big Bot, my friends. He does not deserve the "Pimp My Ride" treatment this upcoming movie has given him. So I slapped this together hastily while I'm trapped here at work and seething over new pictures I've come across for the movie.
God, i fucking hate you, Michael Bay.

Amen to that JamesRoit. I'm a child of the 90's but grew up worshiping optimus. G1 was the ultimate. though in Bay's defence, the movie itself(including no.2) is great-it has a believable solid storyline. that said, he should fire his designers and make the series again sticking true to G1.I think it's pointless making a movie the die hard origional fans are not going to attend out of sheer disgust. I mean, Transormers is a cult large enough to rival the Marvel comic movie scene. hopefully they'll do a remake like they did with the hulk. gosh the first hulk was a cockup. Someone needs to Kick Bay in the tenders for what he did to Megatron. Might aswell have changed Megatrons name cause i didn't recognise that piece of screaming scrap metal in the movie. Long Live G1,

G1 sucked ass. People have different opinions. We didn't see anything in G1 even RESEMBLING a war, just bad jokes and animation errors at every turn. The movie was a bit crummy, but at least it ain't like G-fuckers. I honestly don't see why a crapola TV series like G1 could attract a huge fan-base.

1. I don't give a goddamn about X-men. I mean, honestly. A bunch of super-powered teenagers with a rich benefactor hanging out with hot chicks in spandex and WHINING about it? I WISH I had their problems.
2. YES, we DID see comic fans screaming about the suits. Just like we saw fans screaming about organic web-shooters in Spider-man, and Doc Ock's robot arms being semi-sentient in Spider-man 2, and Supes having a kid in Superman Returns, and the ending change in Watchmen, Thom Bombadil being cut from Lord of the Rings, and the complete departure from the novel in the case of the I Am Legend movie, and so on and so forth ad nauseum. When you change ANYTHING that means something to someone, those people are going to be miffed. Welcome to the wonderful world of fandoms.
3. You're hardly respecting my opinions if you're calling them stupid. Stop trying to put a thin veil of "I'm being nice" over your bashing my little rant. I'd have had more respect for you if you'd flat out said, "I think you're stupid for this, now f'ing deal with it." I despise "diplomacy". It's just fake.
4. Where, in the rant you're commenting on, did I compare Optimus Prime to Jesus Christ? I don't see that anywhere, and I had to go back and read it to make sure. WHich brings me to...

In closing, I don't really care. I just like rebutting things. This was fun, and I don't see how robot cars from outer-space are less believable than Christianity. Plus, Optimus Prime is a truck. And way cooler than Jesus.

Personally, I didn't care, because I'd almost no experience in the Transformers lore. But it introduced me to all the other stuff, and I really preferred the G1 Optimus better. But I can't hate Flame!Optimus, because he introduced me to it all.

I like how there are STILL people complaining about how I complained about this. Yep. Almost TWO YEARS ago, I complained about Optimus Prime having flames on him. What's REALLY funny/sad is how many of YOU fuckwits still take the time out of their day to tell me how oh-so-wrong I am for not liking the design.
So, if they made Sonic the Hedgehog PINK you wouldn't rebel against the idea? Please. You guys who say fans like me are "the problem" are so hypocritical it almost hurts my head to think about. I've watched every TF cartoon since I was a little kid watching G1. I've grown up with the franchise. Beast Wars was OK at best, Energon/Armada/whatever were horrible. Until now, the G1 cartoon was the best rendition...that's why so many of us cling to it in our "idiotic nostalgia". That's why every new comic that comes out is based on it. Because, it may not have been the golden light we all remember it to be, but it's the best by comparison. But now, with Transformers Animated? That show is the most fun I've ever had watching TF. Best move anyone's ever made with the franchise. It's a perfect example of how you can make a fresh start with something while remaining true to the source material.

Eh. Fandoms are usually very distrusting groups of people, and are quick to react when a character we care about is changed, even in the slightest.
That being said, this was also almost two years ago. Before I had seen the movie and realized that Prime's flames were the least of the bad points of it.

You say 90% of people going to see this film will want to see G1. I imagine that most of them didn't grow up in the eighties, so they wouldn't know what G1 is. Just accept that people have different opinions, and you must be at least a little bit happy that Bay got Peter Cullen to voice Prime.

Yeah, Think about it. Most of the people going to see this film were probably little kids thinking. "Ooooh! Giant transforming robots! Cool."
Then after they see the film, their parents tell them. "This film was based on an old TV show."
Then, they'd probably look it up and think, "Wow, they were a lot simpler in the 80's." How would I know? 'Cuz thats how I found out about G1!

I can understand all POV's in the issue on whether or not TF2007 was, indeed, worthy of the name Transformers. I would like to point something out, if you don't mind me doing so... even if it looks like this argument is dead. Not everyone likes every season of a show. Don't get me wrong, G1 totally kicks ass, I mean, the originals normally do (Harry Potter, Eragon etc.) but it is nice to have a fresh... "coat of paint" once in a while, don't you think? I'm not trying to diss G1, far from it. I'm just trying to say, not everyone will think the same thing. I'm sure there are tons of people out there who don't like G1 because they like new and improved... but how can this.. argument be relative when there are a billion and one different seasons and continuities in the TF universe? Just saying.
Besides.. I'd take the movie over Transformers Animated ANY day...

Really? I'd rather watch TF: Animated over "shaky-cam-WTF-is-going-on?". But I think that's more because the movie didn't BALANCE between the TFs themselves and the human element. G1 had JUST enough human element for kids to be able to say, "Man, I wish I could be THAT kid and hang with robots!" them gave plenty of what we showed up to see: robot-on-robot violence. As mucha s I'm not thrilled with the way it LOOKS, TF:Animated is doing the same. The movie gave us 45 minutes of Shia Mc-freaking-talksalot not shutting up, a 5 minute scene revolving around a masturbation joke, a complete waste-of-time secret gov't group that was just a running gag more than anything(I'm sorry, but the fat cop in TF:Animated? More effective than the "OOoOooo...scaaarrryyyy" Sector 7 in the movie), and a side-plot that served no purpose whatsoever (the computer "hackers" were pointless)...then they FINALLY got around to giving us some robot violence that wound up looking like two piles of scrap metal falling into each other thanks to overly-busy character designs and that God-forsaken "shaky cam" thing that Bay has such a hard on over. I think the webcomic "L'il Formers" summed it up best when Optimus Prime and Megatron are watching the movie and Prime says, "Wait...are you hitting me? Or am I hitting you?"
Once I got past the art style and gave it a chance I found myself ENJOYING TF: Animated. Between the theme song and all the G1 nods they easter-egg throughout the series, it's actually fun to watch.
Once I got past the designs for TF:The Movie and gave it a chance, I found myself sort of TOLERATING it. It was ALL Cullen. If Peter Cullen wasn't the voice of Prime, I probably would've just watched a bootleg and saved the $10.

The movie did dissappoint on the actual TF levels, but the fight scenes were kick ass...
My only complaints were:
THEY MADE RATCHET UGLY. AND THEN THEY KILLED JAZZ!!!! TT^TT
That and they sorta made Prime the Over-worked, Under-Paid, father figure...

I fully understand your rage and agree with you. But mine was satitated slightly by the fact that I have been waiting for that movie to come out since I was about knee high to a coffee table. So as much we want to stab him in the back for his mis-representation, we also have to pat him on the back for his attempt.

This is good. Um...I never saw the Original Transformers..I'm only 14, but I've seen Transformers Armada, that's what me to love the characters and the show, but my dad has Original Transformers comics.^^ I seen the movie too, I thought it was pretty cool. It reminded me why I loved the show. And I have to agree, Megatron was fucking ugly as hell in the movie. But the special effects were awsome! XD Please don't hate me for not seeing the original tranofromers and liking the movie. Please?
