The words are mine. The drawing is not mine, but when i saw it...I fell in love with it. It's such a bad-ass picture of Optimus. It looked like Optimus was flipping someone off. And, really, more than Megatron, who needs to be flipped off by Optimus Prime? You guessed it. Michael "I'm Ruining Transformers" Bay. Seriously. Fuck you, Michael Bay. FLAMES? on OPTIMUS PRIME?! If he wanted shitty-looking flams on him, he'd change his name to Optimus McGay-ass and hang out around Bay Manor.I'm sorry, Bay's Optimus looks like shit. Megatron looks even worse...assuming such a thing is possible.
And I don't want to hear any, "But, James...sometimes it's good to refresh the image of...blah blah blah". Whatever. That's fucking bullshit. (90% of the people who would go see this movie are like me: They want to see Generation 1 Transformers (Not "Beast Wars", not "Transformers: Armada") duking it out on the big screen. INSTEAD, we're going to get shitty-designed techno-organic-looking ass-postules running around the screen.
Rally 'round Big Bot, my friends. He does not deserve the "Pimp My Ride" treatment this upcoming movie has given him. So I slapped this together hastily while I'm trapped here at work and seething over new pictures I've come across for the movie.
God, i fucking hate you, Michael Bay.

I can really understand your anger over the whole issue. Transformers G1 is a classic. It's part of your childhood, and that will always make it really special. However, you have to consider the time frame in which both of these were made.
Back in 1984, there were a lot more snub-nosed semi's on the road. Now, in 2007, you'd be hard pressed to find one outside of a collector's show. Much like the majority of the bots(save the more vain ones like Jazz and Sunstreaker), he turned into the first thing he clapped optics on that matched his body mass. (That and I thought the flames looked really cool. Sort of signifying that there is much more to Prime than meets the eyes. Yes, shoot me now for the pun!) Also, as far as Bumblebee being a camaro in the movie, I think it suits his personality much better. He does show up as that piece of crap used one that backfires at first. And you also have to consider who his main adversary was: Barricade. He's a Saleen modified Extreme Mustang. A little VW bug from the late '60s, early '70s could NEVER have hoped to outrun that thing! Besides, the Beester was still a smart mouthed little goofball with courage that goes on for days. So that's all good.
I will however agree with you flat out about Ironhide's voice. The Topkick truck(affectionately called by me "the shitkicker truck") totally suited his rough and tumble Southern personality. So when he didn't have the accent I'm all like WTF?! Where's my Ironhide!? At least he was still as trigger happy. And you also have to look at the fact that this is the first movie of a triology. Yes, Mr. Bay will be making two more movies and Peter Cullen has already signed to continue voicing Prime. So yeah, the story line is going to be pretty bland because it's setting the groundwork for the rest of the series. Just like the first book in a trilogy, or even the first few episodes of G1 itself. Boring and predictable as hell because it's a setup.
Personally, I just want to see Soundwave and see Ratchet's party animal personality come to the fore. Set it up well I think though, walking into the powerlines and he's all breathless like "ooh...that's tingling!" I enjoyed the comedy.

Seriously, I'm old, and a woman,a nd a TF fan since I was knee high. And I don't see the new movie as slaughtering my childhood (I have TF:Animated to do that). I enjoyed the movie, and you're right. It's like StarWars Episode 1. Remember they had the same kind of ranting going on back when it was released? No one did bother to check that it was one part of three. No one ever does when we are talking movie trillogies and not TV shows. Each episode of Transformers was blunt and simple, hell, it was cliche and stupid, well, it would be, if it was a stan-alone, but it wasn't. The stuff is a unity, so will be the movies. Come on. Give it a chance.
I want to see Soundwave too, and from what I read on the sequels, he will be there and might even have a very significant role. That would be awesome, since he was the best D-con ever. I'd love to see some Alpha Trion too, the guy doesn't get enough screentime. Ever.

NO WAY! OPTIMUS PRIME IS BAD ASS NO MATTER HOW HE LOOKS FLAMES OR NO FLAMES. IF YOU WERE A TRUE FAN YOU WOULD SEE THIS TOO! And Megatron to me in the shitty cartoon looked like a white Darth Vader! Although i can't say much about him now! HE LOOKS EVEN CREEPIER! But still...Bumblebee was a shitty fucking Bug in the cartoon! Can't help but notice that you, in your "True Fandom", have had your "Optimus" sn for a whopping 2 days. Very impressive. As far as "not seeing what you see", you saw a big, shiny movie and decided that's what Transformers should be. There are 20+ years of Transformers mythos you might want to catch up on, before casting your prepubescent vote for the movie reigning over all.
1. "True Fans" have RESPECT for the source material, jack-ass. Someone should have told that to your precious Bay.
2. Cartoon Megatron was a classic design voiced by one of the world's most prominent voice-actors. Movie Megatron was a terrible, overly-busy design that looked like someone put their Bionicle toy in a blender then spray-painted it silver and was voiced by an actor who's voice was so "enhanced" that it could have been anyone.
3. I agree that Optimus is bad-ass no matter what, but he's not Hot Rod. The flames look retarded.
4. Bumblebee was never meant to be bad-ass in the cartoons. He was like the little brother Autobot. Like Cliffjumper but with more insecurities. It's called characterization, kiddo, and it was severely LACKING in the movie you're giving a hand-job to here. Part of the draw of Transformers was that the Autobots and Decepticons had such wild personalities. Every kid found someone he/she could relate to. In the movie, there was such bare-bones characterization that it made things like Jazz's death seem bland.
5. Starscream was bad-ass and an awesome character in the cartoon. He was a scheming, sarcastic, insubordinate bastard and rocked out loud for it. His voice (same as Cobra Commander) fit the character perfectly.
I gave the movie a chance, and even enjoyed it...to a point. Maybe you should do the same with the cartoon that's the REASON you got to see your little popcorn flick and stop being such a snot-nosed bitch.

Hm..You make a very good point, and i'm sorry. But i never really watched the cartoon, and i've always hated it. Until i saw the movie and your probably right that i just saw a shining movie and yad yad yad. Well, i thought that Megatron did look like a white darth Vader and he needed some thing that just made the bad guy. When i watched the 20th anniversary movie the other day, i could have sworn it was one of the gayest movie ever, next to Bambi or air buddy. and yes your right i have only had this account for 2 days! but anyway, Now i'm watching it everyday. Since i don't have the Tv Channel it comes on anymore. When i lived in Yuma i did but i moved to a different more crappier town and yes i hate this place. I hate it more every second more that i spend here. And i've always hated Michael Bay, he's made some of the most Gay ass movies ever! His best one i think was Transfomers. And your right Optimus does look weird with Flames. But i still think he's bad ass. And I thought that Jazz's death was shocking and i hated that part..Jazz is my favorite character he always will be.

Well, the only redeeming factor about Bay's movie is that he had Steven Spielburg as an executive producer. If Spielburg had actually directed the movie, he simply would've cut the crap, and given us the Transformers we know and love. They did a good job on the voices though. However, it's Bay's tendency to drag on scenes far longer than they should be (An example would be the scene where Sam is trying to find the glasses. They turn a 30 second scene into a 5 minute mini sit-com where the transformers play hide n' seek with the parents. Totally unecessary, Bay.) However, I wouldn't go into Flamer mode and start cussing out Bay. Sure, he had his faults, and Spielburg would've done a far better job as director, but I feel like Bay did the best he could.
P.S. Prime looked badass with flames, they should've had them on the original Prime

I'll admit that the flames didn't look as bad as earlier designs I saw, but still.
Cullen as Prime was awesome...but Eddie from Family Matters as Jazz? C'mon. The "Li'l bitches" line alone made me glad Jazz got ripped in half. The other voices were alright...though I miss the gruff, southern Ironhide. That voice just always fit the character.
Everyone made such a big deal out of Hugo Weaving as Megatron, but when all was said and done, you couldn't TELL it was Weaving. It could've ben anyone.

Yes, they couldn't have done a better job with Prime's voice and yes, Megatron did me a favor when he ripped Jazz in half. I also agree with you on Ironhide. I feel like Sam Elliot would've made an excellent voice for Ironhide, plus Sam Elliot is just a plain old badass XD

Well, this is a few months old. I saw the movie. And, while it wasn't as bad as I was afriad it would be...it still wasn't great. It had some cool parts, some stupid parts, and some parts that really just shouldn't have been bothered with (sector 7 guy and the stupid little hackers)

Ive watched the movie of our own beloved Gen 1 transformers every day this week. and you know what? Even soaking in all that delicious 80's optimus, I still think he looks great in the new film.
Tell you what. you stay home, and boycott the film, and i'll go see it and have a good time.

I very much agree w/you there. I never got into the cartoon, granted, because it was about a year before I was born when it ended and, being a 90's baby, I more partial to watching 90's cartoons, though I'm not above watching cartoons older than I am out of an open mind and the curiosity typical of Mankind. I respect the old-school Prime and I think he looked totally kick ass, but I must say I like the movie Prime better, but that's just me and my opinion is not the end of the world. I really enjoyed the movie, but I say it could have done a hell of a lot better in places.

The new Prime is plenty Prime enough. Red and blue truck. Blue head with faceplate and antennae. And I'm pretty sure that, like always, he'll have his courage and honor and compassion that makes his character. So what if he's got flames? That's just cosmetic. 
It's like if you go out and got some flame tattoos on your arms. You're still the same person. Wouldn't you be bothered if some people discounted you just on something visual like that?

I'm nowhere near a G1 purist. I got exposed to Transformers through Armada/Energon (yeah, the Japanese stuff), learned more through Beast Wars, and finally made my way to G1.
And even so, I know when they're screwing with things they should not be screwing with. Flames on Optimus Prime?! WTF?? "Refreshing the image" is like the pic you used; it's the same character except updated a bit. But the flames? No. Megatron is even more effed up.
Let's hope that astounding dialogue and plot will make up for the bad character designs. (... ahaha, sure.)

The toy line for Generation 1 was partially based on toy designs with Japanese (and some Chinese, I think) origins, but the G1 show itself was American made. Same with Beast Wars. It's basically all the stuff that came after that (Beast Machines, RiD, Armada/Energon/Cybertron) that's Japanese.
There's probably tons of variations and minor points that one could debate over, but basically Transformers started in the US, went to Japan, and is back in the US for the movie.

Clearly, you don't understand what Transformers G1 means to it's fans...especially Optimus Prime and Megatron. Why not change the story of Christ?! Instead of getting crucified, we could have him get banned off a website...to fit the changing times. These characters are iconic childhood staples that an entire generation looked up to...a lot of us in single-parent families learned our morals from characters like Optimus.
As for G1 in a real-world environment being retarded, there are DOZENS of CGI examples on the net that show how UNretarded it would look...and how practical it could be. Do an Optimus Prime search on Youtube and you'll see what I'm talking about.
It's not that I'm not open to change...it's that I am NOT open to changes that take iconic characters and make them look damn near unrecognizable. Granted, with the final redesign you can look at movie-Optimus and think, "Ok...yeah...I can see some optimus in that..." But Megatron? C'mon...not even a close.
And, not for nothing...little boy...but I just looked through your gallery. What do I see (other than yet ANOTHER slew of annoying Sonic rip-offs)? G1 Transformers. Optimus? Jazz(at least i THINK you drew Jazz), Starscream, Skywarp, Thundercracker? All G1.

I could have listened to my parents nitpicking about such little things. And to be honest, going on the internet isn't helping me escape that. So I'm going to be frank, I am a raver. I want to see the movie and there really is nothing you can do to stop me.
But being a G1 Fan, I understand that you believe Michael Bay destroyed and Raped your dreams. But if you watch the movie, you can find the dickwads responsible for destroying your dreams. So I'm not going to attack you any further. In fact, I will acknowledge that you have your right to hate the movie and that you don't have to see it as you wish.
But of course, I want to see the movie. So you know. No worldwide boycotts or anything. Are we cool?

What I understand is that I made G1 pictures clearly to pacify those who grew up in that time and trust me it isn't easy. What I don't understand is that people are making such a big deal about this thing. I mean it's like that girl on that video who was complaining about getting a red Jaguar instead of a blue one Or when my dad complains about the Red Sox not winning! IT'S IRRELIVENT! It's almost like people are so hooked on G1 that rather than watch the movie, they'd kill themselves unless they get what they want. I've seen the G1 Cartoons on Reruns, of course. I grew up with Megatron being a gun and Optimus Prime's dissappearing trailer. But the problem was, I grew up. I learned that magic does not exist, robots cannot shrink or change mass and trailers cannot disappear without explanation. So If you want to live in your G1 Fantasy world with your magic and wonder, fine. But if you live in a world where Science and the Truth meets Science Fiction and over twenty years of Transforming Robots, I'll be waiting in open arms.
