so happy you like them.
yeah, they were fun to arrange once I realized I had enough colors for a color wheel.

stitched it on with embroidery thread and a sharp needle that could go through the crochet stitches. for the bigger ones I made an outline with the thread and kind of weaved between them. the splatters are chain stitches in varying sizes.

I'm a purist when it comes to crocheting. so far I've always only used yarn and thread. sometimes it's quite the challenge, though.

I would try some of your patterns, but sadly I have no black yarn

that exact same thing was my trouble with the very first emote, too. took me ages to get my hands on black embroidery yarn...
got any shops around that sell yarn and embroidery threads?
it's really best to go for the embroidery stuff for stitching on black lines. I made the mistake once to try it with black crocheting yarn and it left black fuzz everywhere. the embroidery yarn won't do that unless it's poor quality.

Unfortunately, no. So I bust myself making Snitches and pokeballs that don't have black.

if I knew what kinds of brands you had over there... but here, if the shop has a lot of colors of the same brand, it's usually the better kind. the thread is also always slightly shiny. it fuzzes less that way. the cheaper kind of lower quality I've mostly seen coming in packs of about 10 assorted colors. those aren't shiny, but work for any stuff you want to practice with. only the black I would always buy in high quality. that's for the embroidery stuff.
for crocheting itself I've used both cheap and more expensive yarns and have been quite happy with the quality in both cases. the more expensive ones come in more colors, though.
you could use any kind of yarn for crocheting, but I found I like the mercerized kind best. that's easiest to work with for me. no snagging if you have to stitches.

The only shiny thread I have is in neon colors, so I gave it to my little sister I've always liked the soft yarn the best, which is generally good quality; but, It does tend to unravel a lot.

yay!

sometime early next year I should have enough new emotes to upload a new pattern collection. the little killer would be among them, then.
if you make the emote, I'd love to see how you'd make the horns.

Neat.
Ich hoffe das du den deviantStyle Wettkampf gewinnen. *looks at sentence* *sentence refuses to tell her whether she hasn't accidentally said something really weird to Janey*
You'd deserve to. *abstains from trying to say that in German right now*

only two things: 3rd word "dass" and a comma before that, last word "gewinnst". rest is correct. I'm very impressed.
I don't get my hopes up too much, but I'd really love to win. though I wouldn't mind winning with that comic, because it'd mean that the other girl would win, too.

Ah, die Konjugation war falsch.
Don't be impressed. Ich verwendete eine On-Line-Ubersetzer. Und eine Worterbuch. Und jetzt diese Website: [link] (learning from mistakes 1.01: getting the conjugation wrong means you should search for some place where conjugations are mentioned)
I basically went through the same steps I used to go for when writing in Japanese. It's a bit weird. I can sort of figure out German better since it's basically an European language and sufficiently like English for it to matter, but I keep wanting to arrange sentences like in Japanese, since that's my default wildcard language. ("'An online translator wo tsukatta', now how do I say this?" ) So confusing ^^

yeah, I did it that way. with the eyes that's okay, but with the mouths I wish there was another way, because sometimes it looks weird being sewed on. but I haven't found a good method yet...

well, one of them usually takes me between 4 and 6 hours. if I didn't have to make up the patterns as I go, I'd probably be able to narrow that down to 3 to 4 hours. but with the breaks I take in between, it can be several days until I finish an emote. the whole project started a little over a year ago and is still going.
glad you like them and good luck with your own project.
