The song played, and I looked upon the paper. There I saw genius in the making, pencil darting over the cardboardat a dizzying speed. It was amazing and terrifying to watch, this boy, completely stuck in his own image. He was practically out cold in his own mind. A round shape, a beach. A sunset emerged, perfectly depicted. A few ferns on the beach came into being, along with a few swallow that flew over the sun, headed for nowhere. The rocks in the water reflected the sunlight, bringing the drawing to life. He continued perfecting it for another two minutes before finally looking up and leaning back.

"The song brought it into my mind." He said. "It came out pretty good, don't you think?

I mumbled something, I don't remember what.

"I think I'm going to paint it for real when I get home. Too bad I don't have the stuff here." He added a line to one of the rocks and then put some papers on top of the drawing.

I could just nod, crestfallen, and stare at the imprint of his soul on the cardboard paper.
