Description
Here's the three versions of Fantomah that Fiction House created over the years. Most recognizable is the Fletcher Hanks original version (in black.) Like a lot of Hanks' creations, she's less superhero than wrathful goddess who brings judgement and destruction. Which is highly appropriate to her, since she has the alternate form of a blue skull faced monster.Fiction House liked the Fantomah name, but didn't like all the Fletcher Hanks weirdness. Which lead to her second incarnation (in blue.) She was much more of a typical jungle girl, though she did have some mystical abilities. Her stories tended to be much more conventional than the grotesque imagination of Hanks. Eventually, Fantomah shifted again, this time into "The Daughter of the Pharaohs" (in green) she was now the Queen of a lost civilization descended from the Egyptians.
Fantomah is also notable for being the very first female superhero in comics, and in more recent years she's acquired some notoriety, thanks to the revived interest in Fletcher Hanks and his very unusual art style and storytelling. Unfortunately, the revival has been limited to the first version. So I thought it would be a good thing to illustrate all of the Fantomahs together.

I wasn't aware of the third version. The second version bored me and I stopped reading them.

Well, anything having to go after Fletcher Hanks and his gonzo comics would be rather plain by comparison
Hanks was kind of ahead of his time. Him and Basil Wolverton both had art styles that would have fit quite fine into the underground comics scene of later years.

I have a more pages in the works, but I've been dealing with a lot of distractions lately. I'm wanting to get the rest of the story completed before I post anything.

Hope the distractions are nothing too serious, and super-excited to see those new pages!

Oh, just the typical life stuff in general. Biggest problem is getting my head in gear to get some comics done.
My creative process is rather disorganized. I don't work off a script, just a general outline of events I plan on happening (and a lot of times even THAT isn't written down) and I just draw out whatever I think works.
With the current story I know what needs to happen and how I want to end things, but getting there is the issue. Since that last page I posted I've drawn at least a dozen pages, but the direction a lot of them have ended up heading in is not where I want to take the story. So I haven't used them (though I expect I'll have a downright massive unused art file for this story by the end.

Well comics are a lot of work, whichever way your approach is. With my personal work, I never make anything resembling a script, but I thumbnail it out in very rough mini-sketches. Less tedious, but gives me a rough direction.
Having fun is the most important driving force for me, but I do have to do a little planning.
In any case I would definitely love to see the out takes too, I think that's always interesting!

And as far as I can tell, it's the first time they have been pictured together.
