For those who don't know, Steve Gerber was a prolific comic book writer since the 70's, and was the man probably most responsible for my creating Dead Duck. His own creation, "Howard The Duck," really grabbed me back in 1986 when I was twelve and read the Marvel Comic books he wrote, and inspired me to create several of my own duck characters, ending with my best at age 14, Dead Duck himself. Though our concepts are radically different, if it wasn't for his work, I don't know if I ever would have become as "duck crazy" as I did. Having just read of his death a day ago, I felt I needed to pay tribute in some small way.Related content

Yup, I don't care what ANYBODY says, Howard the Duck is one of the toughest characters in the entire Marvel universe, surviving not on sheer power and dumb luck, but on intelligence and cunning. In a way, he was Deadpool before Deadpool was Deadpool!

While I wasn't inspired by Bone in this piece, I'm very much a Jeff Smith fan. I recently drew some artwork for a new Dead Duck website I'm building that features a lion that looks a lot like something Smith would have created, so the influence is unconsciously there for sure.

It's never too late! I drew a caricature of Charlie Chaplin back in 2003 and he'd been dead since the 70's! A tribute is not just significant when the person passes away, so go ahead with your Charlton Heston caricature! It'll be a great tribute so matter what!
