Description
A recent Scooby Doo-themed commission for who asked that I caricature he and his girlfriend as Shaggy and Daphne. Very fun to draw!Related content

Don't worry Shaggy will calm down after he smokes his weed.

Oh good! Fred isn't with them. Maybe he got killed. Maybe a zombie tore off his face and ate it right in front of him, then stuffed Fred into the teeth of giant, red hot gears and ground him up into cooked hamburger. Pity about Velma... but maybe she got out the back way.
And for heaven's sake, Man, sell that cookie jar you call a Mystery Machine, and use your rich uncle's inheritance to buy a Hummer or something.

I appreciate that you like how I drew the Mystery Machine! Admittedly, drawing vehicles has always been one of my biggest challenges!

It looks like they've spotted something even scarier than what they're running from in the castle.

Well, I'd considered having them look behind them, but I thought it might obscure their faces, which would have defeated the purpose of drawing these people as the characters. So yeah, you could theorize someone ahead of them that's scarier than whatever they left back at the castle. Probably a cop about to bust them for weed possession!

Love it! Especially the doobie in Shaggy's hand--he always had the munchies and would eat scooby snacks, so you KNOW he had to be a stoner, but H-B had to hide that for the kids. Don't know the commissioner or his girlfriend, but it looks like they make a good Shaggy and Daphne. Did they ever dress like that for Halloween? Nice tribute.

Incredible as always! Love the staging too, with that trail of dust all the way down the mountain - very Hanna-Barbera!

The ToonZone website interviewed Scooby-Doo character designer Iwao Takamoto a few years back, and when asked about any drug subtext on the show, he firmly denied it - he said that if they'd tried to slip drug humor into a kids' show in 1969, they'd have been off the air in the blink of an eye. Still, you gotta admit, the case against him is pretty solid...

Still, you cannot deny that no human can be THAT fixated on food like Shaggy... and most people will agree only one subtext can be linked to that sort of munchies. ^_^
Yeah, the code of S&P back in those years was even more strict than today. Reminds me of a beer commercial back then, where a bunch of people were discussing what could and could not be shown in a beer commercial, with the emphasis on the fact TV broadcasters would NOT let you drink a beer on TV... yet, a dude in a gorilla suit in the same commercial bucks the trend by quaffing one right as the guy explaining the "unspoken rule" is speaking.
