Description
My ToonZone buddy recently celebrated his birthday, which through an amazing cosmic coincidence happens to fall on the same day as the birthday of one of cinema's greatest animated stars, Mickey Mouse. It was Mickey's 80th this year, so at John's suggestion, I drew this brief history of the mouse's evolution, highlighting some of his key roles through the past eight decades.Included are "Steamboat Willie" (1928), "The Band Concert" (1935), "The Brave Little Tailor" (1938), "The Sorcerer's Apprentice" (1941), "Mickey and the Beanstalk" (1947), "Mickey's Christmas Carol" (1983), and "Runaway Brain" (1995). Of course, this only just begins to scratch the surface of Mickey's long and varied career - but if I tried to include all of his best roles, I'd be here all day. Happy birthday, both to Mickey and John!

I'll always love Mickey Mouse, no matter what. The only thing I hate Mickey in is Mickey Mouse Clubhouse. Why turn one of the most beloved icons in animation to a thirty-minute babysitter for your three-year-old?

If you wanted to do more alternate idenities, some other cartoons I think could fit would be Plane Crazy, On Ice, Mickey's Magic Act, the Pointer, the Nifty Ninties, Mickey Mouse Club(1955 version in his band marcher outfit), the Prince and the Pauper, Kingdom Hearts, House of Mouse and the 3 Musketeers.
That is if you'd have enough room to draw them all. Just saying.

If you also added Mad Doctor Mickey, Moose Hunter Mickey, Lonesome Ghost Mickey, Pauper Mickey, and the Prince (all who appeared in Mickey Mania alongside of Steamboat Mickey and Beanstalk Mickey), then it will be perfect.

Man I loved that dark mickey short where he looked rabbid.
U ever hear that audio clip where Pinky and the Brain [rob and moe in an interview] were talking about how they "hate that mouse" because he's almost taken over the world.

Very nice, and I really like your choice of Mickeys used, especially the one for "Runaway Brain". I haven't seen it in it's entiety (except for clips, and a German version), but I'd like to.

You drew that so well! What did you use to make it?

At one point in my life, I think i've seen all of these. Aaw, nostalgia. And thank you for adding "Runaway brain". I saw a poster for it when I was little (I suppose the same year it was released), and I've been wanting to see it ever since. i just recently found it, so I thank you for reminding me.
anyway, great picture! Who deosn't love hits mouse, huh?

I actually do remember seeing Runaway Brain and the guy who worked on that short, Chris Bailey is a regular guest speaker at my school, which is cool.
As for the other shorts, I actually think I've seen all of them, ending with Steamboat Willy, which I saw in class from my first multimedia class along with other old time animations. It's amazing to see how one character changed over the years, the same goes for a few of the other Disney characters too, like Donald, Goofy, Minnie and Daisy.
I somewhat find it interesting that Mickey started out with two dots for eyes and no gloves but gradually gained more human (or realistic, whatever you may call them) eyes and gloves... As well as a change of wardrobe for the most part. I mean, the shorts I have seen from 50's I think, showed him the more comtempory clothing of the day as opposed to his shorts.

The Magician's Apprentice always scared me as a kid.
Just the fact that those brooms wouldn't even flinch when Mickey tried to stop them...
Needless to say, I was afraid of those types of booms for a while.
But, aside from me being neurotic, very good work indeed!

Micky Mouse was my write-in for President. He's old enough, business experience, international relations, and knows how to organize a diverse workforce. Shame he didn't win.
Micky is the best.

Like I said, I couldn't fit 'em all in there. There's plenty of other noteworthy Mickey roles that I would have liked to include - most significantly, I wanted to put a reference to "The Mickey Mouse Club" in there somewhere, but time and space were of the essence.

And even no room for the CGI Mickey Mouse Clubhouse that airs on the Disney Channel's Playhouse Disney block.

Well, that exclusion was more of a matter of necessity - it's almost impossible to render a CGI character realistically with Micron pens. (Besides, I personally think that "Mickey Mouse Clubhouse" has been the lowlight of Mickey's career, but that's just me.)
