Description
As part of the "Pokémon" fandom, I have a lot to put up with - mostly foolish, shortsighted people who want the anime to conform to their idea of what's cool. So I thought up an idea for a Pokémon movie that satirizes the American fanbase and how detached it is from what the Japanese writers actually do on the show. It basically tries to be a straightforward Pokémon film (there's a legendary Pokémon at the center, in this case Houou, and there's a villain with a sinister scheme and so forth), but the plot is disrupted by two American tourists, Vanessa and Dylan, who claim to be Satoshi's "biggest fans" yet spend the entire movie complaining about what he's doing wrong and how much of an idiot they think he is. Dylan wants him to evolve Pikachu, while Vanessa wants him to fall in love with Kasumi. Eventually, the two kids become the primary antagonists, going to extreme violent measures to impose their will on the world of Pokémon, and it's up to Satoshi and his friends to stop them. It's fun to think about, but I didn't really act on it - the whole thing exists purely within my mind. I have more important things to do than expend my energy on elaborate fanfiction projects that won't go anywhere.

This is a nice sktech you made. But I am confused in what you mean by American Fambase and how we are "foolish" and "short-sighted"

Why do you use the Japanese names? I can't tell who you're talking about.

I don;t have much of an opinion on the pokemon TV series and movies (because I grew out of them long ago) but this would look badass in full colour!

Ack, with any Japanese anime that comes to American shores, there is bound to be the arguement of whether or not the dub is terrible (usually, it's always that the dub is terrible, even if the actors were good) or if they changed anything in the show to appeal to "Americans". It's always like that with anime, though at time I can see why. And this is why there's a rumor that Yu-Gi-Oh 5D's is supposed to be a take that at 4Kids' policies.
Strangely enough, Pokeman was one of my fave anime in the day.

Well to be sincere, I don't exactly know what the problem is with the American fanbase and the actual writers of this show. Would some one be able to explain, I'm a little slow on the whole issue.
Fantastic poster nonetheless.

now that really is interesting ^^, loved the concept of satirizing the american fanbase, the truth must be told! though how does Ho-Oh enter the fray for this story?
funny thing, I also had an idea for a pokemon story of my own, though it was more of a spin off where the our world and the world of pokemon are one, and despite the positive influences of the creatures, many humans from our world still consider them a threat (which includes many of the controveries pokemon is known for, I even remember somebody claiming pokemon to be a religion) and when the U.N. mislead by a powerful governor called to action about eliminating the world of pokemon once and for all, not only is it up to the surviving trainers from that world, but also one who didn;t even want to become a trainer in the first place but it forced to do so because of his surroundings. Entitled: "Operation: Obliterate"

This reminds me of when I watched a teaser for the latest film in Japan quite a while back (movie 13 if anyone's keeping count) that showed a short Ho-Oh vs Lugia fight, and that made me consider for a while wanting to see it just to see if Satoshi still had any memory of Ho-Oh. But then the last time I checked on it it didn't look like they were going to be in the film at all, so now I feel sort of tricked and misled.

Well, Ash has the name Satoshi in Japan as the creator of Pokemon goes by that name. Likewise, Gary's name in Japan is Shigeru. Give you one guess as to why THAT is.
Anyway that aside, it's very petty to do this kind of thing. If the "fans" were any bit as mature as they think they are they'd shut their mouths.

Yeah, well rampant fandoms with clashing schools of thought is in all fandoms for any given series according to my knowledge. On behalf of the Powerpuff Fanbase (or race, whichever you prefer), we too have fans making "OCs" all over the place and injecting the series with their "ideas." The point is you're not alone, and normally such characters heavily drag and tangent away from the main series and/or its spirit. I mean it's nice to daydream and wish any one of us was, in a sense, tied to the series as an original/fan character or that some way with already-made characters would go a certain way, but this just goes too far with that daydream of "being an OC involved in a super series." You know what I'm saying, right?
On a side note, you've addressed the issue in a most clever manner, affiliating it with one of the more disappointing movies nerds can recall.

I don't think Ash should ever evolve Pikachu. I think, instead, he should stop using him altogether. In fact, as his team essentially completely changes every region, he should be replaced with every new generation. I mean, maybe it's different in the original, but the Ash I know is bland as saltines and warm tap water.

Yeah, but that doesn't men they can't have ANOTHER series that focuses main attention on other Pokemon than just Pikachu. How about a boy and his Swalot? Swalot never gets enough love.

NUTCASE71733 In reply to FunkyAl [2010-06-18 21:46:31 +0000 UTC]
Everyone has a favorite, and it wouldn't be possible to appeal to everyone. Swalot's cool but it's overshadowed because it doesn't have enough going for it to have a bigger role compared to most other pokemon.

FunkyAl In reply to NUTCASE71733 [2010-06-19 02:29:07 +0000 UTC]
Well, perhaps not Swalot in particular, but it would be nice to see some more variety in general. In terms of appealing to everyone, why not just have a show that doesn't focus on one specific trainer, but jumps around a bunch, different trainer every episode! One week, a girl and her Aipom, the next a woman who has a Metang and a Blissey, and the next Joey and his top percentage Rattata!
I'd watch that. In fact, I may pitch that.
Oh, and Swalot has PLENTY going on for it. Have you seen the Mustache? It's a fine mustache.

NUTCASE71733 In reply to FunkyAl [2010-06-20 17:47:27 +0000 UTC]
if it jumped around like that on a constant basis it wouldn't have been the sucsess it s now. Pokemon Chronicles only got away with it because it focused on the characters Ash had been friends with or had some connection to another character loosely connected to him. To jump around like that wouldn't be smart as the point of the anime is a reflection of the games.
